Technically yes, it is a hate crime.

There's no doubt in my mind though that it won't be prosecuted as one.

The article does not give enough information to know it was a "hate crime".

Of course technically one does not kill someone they love and then try to butn them up.

But a "hate crime"? that is just prejudicial speculation at this time with the info we have.
