America Must 'Condemn and Shun This Movement Called Black Lives Matter'
July 20, 2016 | Commenting on the July 7 assassination of five Dallas police officers by shooter Micah Xavier Johnson, who reportedly was motivated by the death of black men at the hands of the police, Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke said it is time for America to “condemn and shun this movement called Black Lives Matter.”

“It is time for this nation to stand up with one voice and to condemn and shun this movement called Black Lives Matter,” said Sheriff Clarke on the July 8 edition of The Kelly File. “I would like to see the Southern Poverty Law Center place Black Lives Matter alongside those other hate groups that were mentioned,” said the sheriff. “These Black Nationalist groups, the Black Panther Party, the Nation of Islam.” “It doesn't mean that those organizations will go away just because they're on that list, but what happens is, people start to delegitimize these movements and marginalize them,” said Sheriff Clarke. “This movement needs to be marginalized.”

When host Megyn Kelly noted that the Dallas shooter, Micah Xavier Johnson, was not part of Black Lives Matter, Sheriff Clarke said that, according to the Dallas police, Johnson “said he wanted to kill white people.” Dallas Police Chief David Brown said that Johnson “was upset about the recent police shootings” in other cities and “wanted to kill white people, especially white officers,” reported The Washington Post.

Sheriff Clarke then said, “It is time for the liberal mainstream media -- the liberal mainstream media, The New York Times editorial board, the CNN, MSNBC to stop walking on eggshells and giving legitimacy to these rants, to all this false narrative coming out of this Black Lives Matter movement. Once we do that and marginalize this group, then we can go about all the work.”

In his closing comments, Sheriff Clarke said, “you know, the rhetoric I don't think is going to go away. We need to delegitimize this Black Lives Matter movement. We've had enough of their nonsense.” David A. Clarke Jr., a Democrat, was elected to a 4-year term as the sheriff of Milwaukee County in 2002, and was re-elected in 2006, 2010 and 2014. In those elections he won, respectively, with 74%, 78%, 74%, and 79% of the vote.
