You may never know, thanks to one man.

A bill was introduced to the Senate that would make a searchable database listing every penny of some $2.5 trillion in government spending, making the quest for government waste no more than a mouse click away. If the American people really knew what their money was being spent on, government waste would take a nose dive. However, the bill had a 'secret hold' put on it, stopping its progress until whoever put it on decides to remove it. Rumors and speculation have been swirling around for weeks, trying to figure out what kind of jerk would block the bill just before the summer break. Well, the secret's out, and it couldn't be any more obvious. The blocker of the bill was none other than Senator Ted Stevens, builder of the now famous Bridge to Nowhere, a monument to the monumental problem of government waste. Hundreds of organizations have banded together in an effort to oust the man, and I think his power is now dwindling. This is just another slap in the face to the American public.

Yes we do, the bill is about citizens being able to track the pork, easily. That is what the 'hold' was to prevent-that bill. The information on cagw was brought to sunshine by Porkbusters.

The Klucker was in on it with Stevens too:

Open Government: Pork protection

SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER EDITORIAL BOARD

The "secret hold" on a good-governance bill that would open federal spending to public scrutiny turns out to be a bipartisan boondoggle. Sen. Ted Stevens, R-Alaska, and Robert Byrd, D- W.Va., each has his foot on the bill.

Political bloggers helped ferret out the culprits. The revelations likely came as no surprise to the folks at the Pork Busters blog, who already surmised that, "If Sen. Byrd is the Emperor Palpatine of pork, then Ted Stevens has clear aspirations to be his Darth Vader."

With the widespread availability of Internet search technology, lawmakers need to recognize that transparency is the only acceptable option.

What we need is a bill that would prohibit lumping unrelated provisions into any other bill. I would guess that there has been few, if ever, bills for pork projects that have been passed on their own merit. If Congress was forced to vote on pork by itself then we would get real debate happening- which is how the gov'mint is supposed to work.

I agree, but it's not likely.

If I was the president, especially in second term, I wouldn't care what the 'main' bill was; anything that hit my desk with pork on it would get vetoed and I'd go back to congress and tell them that I'd only pass the bill if they'd just stop using it as a hog trough.

There's that problem again. Debates require people to have ideas and proposals. Liberals don't have any other than finding a way to regain power.

It's not just liberals who seek power and can't debate. We've got a big ol' crop of pork barrel republicans in Congress, if you hadn't noticed.

Oh ive noticed. Particular that guy from alaska and his bridge to nowhere. That just hacks you off. This bill is key to bringing the information to the forefront so people can physically see what is going on and not second hand analysis from political hacks looking to mislead the public.

Agreed--where is the media to highlight the BS BEFORE it becomes law???

You want easy? click this http://www.cagw.org/site/PageServer.

You want another Government Department, a department of Pork? Just to post a wed site, what sense does that make when the info is already out there? How much will it cost? How accurate will the information be (it will be a government office ya know)? Doesn't make sense to me.
