Leftists tend to hate anything that has an image of being strong, good and successful. They hate America, they hate Western civilization, they hate white males, they hate rationality. The reasons that leftists give for hating the West, etc. clearly do not correspond with their real motives. They SAY they hate the West because it is warlike, imperialistic, sexist, ethnocentric and so forth, but where these same faults appear in socialist countries or in primitive cultures, the leftist finds excuses for them, or at best he GRUDGINGLY admits that they exist; whereas he ENTHUSIASTICALLY points out (and often greatly exaggerates) these faults where they appear in Western civilization. Thus it is clear that these faults are not the leftist's real motive for hating America and the West. He hates America and the West because they are strong and successful.

Our sad leftists do not hate the West because it is strong and successful.

They hate the West because it is strong and successful without using leftists methods and ideology to get there.

If, say, the USSR had become strong and successful, as it almost did for a while, the leftists would not have hated it at all. They would have loved it because it validated their agenda.

Leftists don't hate strength and success per se. They hate anything that does not validate their leftist ideology. And they hate even worse, things that actively refute their ideology and show it to be a sham... which strength and success in capitalist western countries (while the USSR goes down the tubes economically) does, in spades.

Sure thing, leftists like Mao and Stalin were never violent.

He starts out criticizing industrialism but quickly glosses over it and instead delves into what a leftist is, giving some pretty good descriptions. I especially liked:

"leftism is a totalitarian force because of the leftists' drive for power" and

"Leftist types all over the world vigorously protested the U.S. military action in Vietnam, but when the USSR invaded Afghanistan they did nothing. Not that they approved of the Soviet actions; but because of their leftist faith, they just couldn't bear to put themselves in opposition to communism."
