When is it ok to judge others based on their words and deeds?

I do it. You do it. Everyone does it.

Yet sometimes we'll tell others they're wrong for being judgmental (ironically judging them in doing so).

So when is it ok to be judgmental, and when is it not ok?

One should always be judgemental of others.
It is how we keep from running with the wrong crowd and getting taken advantage of.

Now if you speak of the biblical aspect.
You should still be judgemental as above, however it is not your place to judge if another is going to hell, etc or not.

Only fools do not judge others.

We are always judgemental, the question is how we act on it.

Wagging your finger isn't cool.

It's a good question. I think often people confuse using objective judgment and the more harsh definition that tends toward sticking your nose in someone else's business.

It's the same with discrimination and discriminating taste.

Exactly.

I can allow people to live their lives as they please all while judging there choices to be good or bad.

It's the old definition of tolerance where one puts up with others and minds his own business not the new definition of tolerance that seem to demand embracing the lifestyles and choices of others

Yep, you just do not have to act judgemental or gossip about your judgements.
Like on political boards? ;)

Are you being judgmental? :eusa_whistle:

When you are free of sin yourself....

When you have taken the plank out of your own eye...so you can see clearly.

Uscit is right, we are not to judge someone elses salvation....

We are to constantly discern right from wrong, or right from wrong actions....

When it becomes a matter of personal security.

What about when a woman chooses to abort her pregnancy?

Clearly not a matter of personal security, but is it still ok to judge?

sure judge away. However poking your nose into someone elses business is a good way to get it punched.

Judging is not the same as condemning. Given that we all have value systems, we make judgments every day. We wouldn't be able to survive otherwise.

I'm surprised that nobody has brought up the fact that laws, and their enforcement, is precisely how society passes judgment upon the individual. And while we may disagree on specific laws, by and large I think most would agree that this is an example of when it's ok.
