90% of the southern and southwestern U S votes by the dictates of the Christian faith. 75%of the population claims to be a Christian. Secular?

It would be like saying Iran is Christian

Our Government, our Courts and our laws are not predicated on the Christian belief. They USE parts of it but the USA is not a theocracy and can never be one.

We are the first nation on this earth to recognize that we have rights from God and freedom of all religions.
America is based on God, family and knowledge and the socialists of this nation has attacked these principle's very heavily for the last 50 years or so.

What about the northwest, and northeast, and the west coast? If you consuider California part of the southwest....I doubt your figures.

Last I heard, 75% of Americans believe in God, and 65% are Christian...but I could be wrong

At any rate....Secular only means to be not overtly or specifically religious. It's fine to use your morality in your legislation as a politican. It's very wrong, however, to invoke God as the reason why a piece of legislation or a law should be created.

Mitt Romney hit it on the head last night on this question. Rick Perry's buddy is an idiot.

.

Really? I think that's exactly what the Republican party is shooting for.

Preserving stem cells at all costs while research could save hundreds of thousands of lives

Supporting any effort or activity to force young women to have unwanted children when the world is already full of them.

Supporting Israel against those who they have conquered and occupied and whose lands they have acquired through war.

Maintaining control and power and allowing the less fortunate to suffer while they put hundreds of billions of borrowed dollars into military research and development.

Standing in the way of the advancement of ordinary working Americans at any juncture.

Don't tell me about Republicans...I was one when they were a good political party.

Not true.

Good guess though.

Name another country who has, before 1776.
Natural rights not human rights.
endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, Life, Liberty and Pursuit of Happiness
Holland.

Yeah, they kind of had to though, because they were a collection of feudal states with diverse traditions and beliefs. You have to admit that they came to that conclusion out of necessity and not out of altruism.

Dear C: Even under the Christian beliefs and the Bible,
the courts are given over to secular/civil authority.

The govt is set up to be secular, to be based on natural
laws of "consent of the governed" and authority of the people.

There is still divine influence recognized on our govt and leaders.
But the expression of the laws is carried out in secular fashion.

The problem is not so much that we are secularized, but that
this authority is ABUSED, whether it is church or state institutions.

Private interests and biases hijack and bully their way using
"collective institutions" to amass more power than individuals.

People protest religious abuse by church leaders who do this,
legal/judicial abuse by lawyers/private interests that abuse courts,
corporate interests that abuse government and freedoms under the law in general
to do the very opposite -- to violate the laws and protections of others, by
usurping greater resources/influence to outnumber/overrule individuals with less!

The ABUSE is the issue, whether you are abusing
religious authority or governmental authority.

Where the consent of the governed is respected, and truth and law are
established by free will, reason, informed consent,
then the standards of both realms are met, both the church and the state.

The way they operate differently is not the issue,
but where conflicts are addressed by abusing power to overrule dissenters,
that is the problem! With both church and state!

I was just answering the question correctly. And it was a neccessity for the founders to do what Holland did because these new world religons were crooping up, like Baptists, and Methodists. By creating a secular concept for government they ensured that everybody actually wanted to be part of the US

We Americans sometimes think we were the first enlightened country ever.

What is this secular thing? You mean our government and the forces that want to turn the US into a theocracy?

If USA will not became a theocracy it will be a Caliphate with the Sharia Law.

Muslims comprise less than 1% of the population in America...under 2 million total out of 375 million.

What makes you think the Muslim population will grow fast enough to achieve this takeover of our laws?

After gaining of Majority Muslims will kill all non-Muslims.
It has been happened everywhere, worldwide, according to the "peaceful" Teaching of Quran.

I don't know of any other nation's basis for government that says people are born with all rights and they're not granted by government.
