What is Gerrymandering? Is there a solution?

It is when you redraw district lines in order to skew elections in one parties favor.

Republicans often defend it, not because they have a good case, but because they rely on it to survive.

How do you stop it?

How do you stop it?

If you had a consolidated Democrat government, they could potentially write new laws to reduce it.

The Republicans would never support something like that, since it would destroy them.

The demrats would just do their own gerrymandering like they always do when they control the process.
The courts will declare it unconstitutional and set standards for setting districts

Maybe in a thousand years,

They benefit from a couple gerrymandered districts, but overall eliminating it would position them as the dominant party for a long time.

Gerrymandering. Hm, lemme see. Many people are saying that it means changing stuff to emulate germany, but by folks who are barely literate.others have been reported to say that it is an amalgam of an amphibian and a new england guvnor. In any case, IT IS WRONG, and needs to be stopped at state level. So VOTE IN THE MIDTERMS AS WELL YOU MORONS.

More than a couple and its staying. Some states have do not gerrymander straight out. Iowa, North Carolina, New Jersey for starters.

No, it is only a couple. The Republicans do it far more, so much that they survive solely out of gerrymandering and low democrat voter turn out.

Unless there is some secret strategic reason, the Democrats would probably eliminate it somehow. It would cause net benefit for their party.

The United States would not survive that long, but why?

I see no reason why they would not do it.

Only in cases like Baker vs Carr in 1962. Gerrymandering has been with the country since the beginning. It has been challenged along the way by BOTH parties at various times. Court decision wise its not changed much and most likely won't in the near future.

Repubs couldn't get elected without it.

They have even admitted that.

Yeah right, that's why you regressives have used the courts to cut out minority districts. They give us real smart people in congress like shelia jackass lee. that dipshit that thought Guam would tip over, waters and many more morons.

Hardly the case. Its only been in the last 20 years that the GOP has had a gerrymander advantage if want to call it that. The dems have and will use in the future just like the GOP when the opportunity presents itself.

Normally I would agree, if the Democrats only had a slight advantage without gerrymandering.

I believe it is something like over 60% of Americans lean Democrat, and they have majority support on most issues like abortion, gun control, ect.
