What happened with the ventilators?

ClaireH

OK.….found something. It was reported by Politico, so it has a spin that protects Biden. But read between the lines, and it’s clear that the Biden Admin’ attempt to separate from the count those who entered the hospital for reasons other than COVID was designed to lower the count.

Neat trick, huh? When it was becoming apparent that more people were dying under Biden than Trump, just change the way the count is figured. Dems are so deceitful.

Do not take this the wrong way, but fuck off.

My wife is an ICU nurse that spent most of 2020 and 2021 working in a negative pressure Covid Unit where the worst of the patients were put. Putting someone on a Vent was always the last resort when nothing else worked. They were not just willy nilly putting people on vents just for shits and grins.

This kind of bullshit pisses me off as is calls into question the integrity of people like my wife.
In that case GG, your wife should be aware of better alternatives compared to the old fashion intubation vent mechanism that is completely invasive. Please see above links, or not;)

And they try all those alternatives before they put someone on a vent. This fucked up idea they just throw people on the vent on a whim just shows your ignorance of the topic.

I remember when my dad was in the ER (pre-COVID) with a dangerously low oxygen level. The doctor put him on on oxygen mask but told me if his levels didn’t begin to go up within 15 minutes, we would have to intubate - and that it would be a last resort, with likely a sad outcome. Thank Gd, he recovered without need for intubation.

Yes but they saw something on the internet!

All true MAGAs should never trust or go to doctors ever again.

Let’s qualify your statement by comparing what you’ve just written, to this statement made and sourced above:

“The success we’ve had has been truly remarkable,” said Michael O’Connor, MD, UChicago Medicine’s Director of Critical Care Medicine.”
“Avoiding intubation is key,” Spiegel said. “Most of our colleagues around the city are not doing this, but I sure wish other ERs would take a look at this technique closely.”

One major study found that 88% of the people being treated for Covid with mechanical ventilation died, yet they were all the rage there for a while.

Among the 2,634 patients for whom outcomes were known, the overall death rate was 21%, but it rose to 88% for those who received mechanical ventilation, the Northwell Health COVID-19 Research Consortium reported.

Seems like it should have been obvious that the ventilators were a death sentence, but they were hooking people up like humans in the Matrix, then they just faded away. Hearing about a someone on a ventilator from Covid is rare all of sudden. It should be important to understand where that treatment protocol came from and why it persisted so long with such disastrous results across the country.
My son is a Respiratory Specialist and My Daughter is a Charge RT..... BOTH... were fighting with Doctors to NOT ventilate people.
Using the ventilators killed a LOT of people. That is not arguable.
Once the politics of this die down.... there will be some mind blowing documentaries about just how badly the early responses were. And it was all about hiding where the virus came from, and politicizing the shit out of it.
Look up studies in how Covid has completely turned upside down what the medical field believed about blood OX level survivability and damage. This is why so many people died in the first 3-4 months.
WHen Bonzi and I got it in November 2020 - both my kids implored us to stay home and out of a hospital.

The sheer number of people who were HEALTHY but their blood OX levels dropped tp previously believed danger levels - "PUT THEM ON A RESPIRATOR!!!".... and it killed them or at least caused lung damage.

Among the 2,634 patients for whom outcomes were known, the overall death rate was 21%, but it rose to 88% for those who received mechanical ventilation, the Northwell Health COVID-19 Research Consortium reported.

It is fun when you double down on your ignorance.

It was not the ER putting people on vents, these people had all been admitted and were being treated and NOTHING was working, and the vents were the last resort.

You think because you can use google that you know more than actual medical professionals. But you do not

"We let these patients tolerate a little more hypoxia [oxygen deficiency]. We give them more oxygen. We don't intubate them until they are truly in respiratory distress," Chaddha said. "If you do this correctly, if you put somebody on the ventilator when they need to be put on the ventilator and not prematurely, then the ventilator is the only option."

I would advise you take it up with UChicago Medicine’s Director of Critical Care Medicine, one of my quoted sources. I look for direct quotes made by unbiased specialists- not middlemen interpreters nor government spokespeople for health knowledge.

Never presume you know anything about me because you don’t, and I will return the sentiment.

I am sorry Burgermeister for my participation in the derailment of this important topic.

I do not need to assume anything about you, you make it all very clear for the whole board to see.

You are comparing actions taken in the heat of the moment by an ER team to those over the course of days by an ICU team. They are not one in the same, no matter how much you may think they are.

I’ve stayed out of the conversations about moderators participating in threads because I understand it to be a non-paid job that requires a substantial time commitment. That said, however, you are way out of line insinuating that I have just read something on the Internet. Get a reality check if you plan to be considered a fair moderator. Right now from where I’m standing, it appears you need to actually look at what a poster uses for sources to avoid making your false assertions to take a “side”. Otherwise, it appears you’re not interested in making accurate judgement calls.

Golfing Gator . . . my most respected debate opponent . . . I happen to agree that people were put on ventilators as a last resort, and so blaming ventilators for the deaths is like blaming chemotherapy for cancer deaths because people often die after chemotherapy (my analogy).

But, come on, Compeer. ClaireH disagreeing with us has nothing to do with the integrity of your wife. At my school we had a teacher who was put on a respirator and placed face down. Our school nurse said that this was a really bad sign that the end was near, and she turned out to be right. But I don't claim ClairH is attacking the integrity of our school nurse.

It wouldn't have anything to do with your wife's integrity even if people really were put on ventilators too often/too early, because Nurses don't make that decision. And no . . . I'm not attacking your wife's influence at her job. I'm stating a fact.

They love to do that. Obama changed the way they counted illegal alien "deportations," by calling being turned back at the border a deportation. So, he could claim that he had deported more illegal aliens than W., who only counted actual deportations.

That's the kind of lie that we know even Democrats know is a lie, because they would have turned on Obama in a minute if he had really increased the pace of deportation of illegals.

They were already bad off.

The vents finished them off. Remsdeathisnear helped too.

Reading comprehension... try it sometime. :D

I said, and I provided links and testimony from 2 people who were neck-deep in Covid patients - Respiratory staff were literally arguing with doctors to not put people on ventilators. People who were sitting up, talking but there blood Ox was very low.
My daughter especially was frantic about what was happening - "they were sitting up... healthy people... and they put them on a ventilator and you can literally see them going down hill".
