Given all the tax dodges and off-shoring gimmicks for tax avoidance schemes available to the top 1% that the lower 50% will never see and don't even know exist, it's ridiculous to claim the top 1% are paying anything near a 'fair share'. The WSJ say most end up paying around '17%', but that is after deductions of all kinds, and deferrals as long as several years depending on how good you or your accountants are.

So, it is usually a case of some worker with a real job paying $8 an hour, who may not be paying much in income taxes, but is still paying payroll taxes, sales taxes, rents that pay their landlord's taxes, and the gains on their labor that their employers pay their taxes with, and of ocurse whatever gains made by companies who sell their products to workers make, the numbers game is more like '17% of 20% of real profits', not 17% of total profits. This is why increasing the personal deduction to the too low estimates of the government's fake 'inflation adjusted' figures has caused such a 'decrease' in Federal income taxes by certain brackets, never mind the lower brackets are actually paying the vast majority of taxes in real life. The personal deduction should be increased to around $43, 000 if they were really honest about it.

It's like claiming slave owners in the south were paying all the taxes. Well, duh ....
