West Virginia: The Legislation Joe Manchin Is Holding Up Would Help His State — A Lot

Yep....Dims are all about helping the poor folks of West Virginia. Remember Hillary telling West Virginia coal miners she was gonna put them all out of work? And the Green New Deal bullshit in this Bill is supposed to help West Virginians how?

Nobody but a Dim could buy this much bullshit.
So you think West Virginia's future is in Coal?

Seriously... Coal jobs aren't even loosing to Green as much as it is loosing to automation and gas... GOP just loved trying to make the Green lobby the bad guys but reality is different...

What Hillary did want to do was develop a high class rural optic fibre network... That way towns can have jobs in new tech..

Decades ago when the globalism was being formed in real terms to espouse its intentions, we were told that the industrial age was ending and the service age would bring massive benefits to us all. It did not as it short circuited after a few years. The ghettos in the cities that have receive endless trillions of dollars and corporate shakedowns and donations without any shame involved, and massive upgrades to infrastructure up to decaying homes is still not enough.

I understand your frustration but Globalism is not to blame... Corporate lobbying has a huge effect in US and you can just compare middle & Working class US with Europe....

US has been eroding the regulations and standards for decades to push up profits...

West Virginia is another case... It has been poor for decades, coal just covered the cracks but automation and gas has done far more damage to that industry than Green....
Just how many have been converted More than 100 coal-fired plants have been replaced or converted to natural gas since 2011 - Today in Energy - U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA)

Many more were retired and new ones built... On top of that Renewables are getting cheaper and cheaper with better jobs...

So West Virginia was left to rot...

So lets look what other countries do in this situation... Lets look at EU...
EU would designate the areas as a regional disadvantaged area.. This opens up a number of things:
  • Extra grants for small and large business to share risk in start ups and expansions
  • Broadband and other infrastructure investment
  • Huge Education investment
I live in an area next door to one and the EU invested millions.. The area is lovely now, good jobs, people paying taxes...

EU control the amount of goods and services coming in... They seem to be far more careful than US... They are also a big block economically (twice the population of US)...

The big thing is inside EU, everyone plays by the same rules... They have the same workers rights, human rights, environmental rights... No tarrifs...

That was what TPP was going to be as well... TPP was the ability for US worker to level the playing field... First China, India and Brazil were on the outside... Any one in the TPP would have to conform to the same worker and environmental rights (US was generally going to set them)... Now the low wage worker in Vietnam would have to get those workers rights (increased pay, shorter hours) & Environmental Rights, US worker has a change of competing against these companies... But also as the Vietnam worker gets better pay and conditions they become a consumer themselves, US would have no tariff (unlike today) to exporting to these emerging markets...

Yes the Lobbyists in US (this is a huge scourge) were trying to meddle with the rule but in fairness Democrats were fighting back... GOP is terrible when it comes to Corporations...

West Virginia struggles with the exact problems that Biden’s spending bill aims to fix.

West Virginia has long been synonymous with rural poverty and, today, its median income is the nation’s second lowest, behind only Mississippi.

For much of the 20th century, that bred public support for muscular government action and led to the election of Democratic senators like Robert Byrd, who used his long tenure on the Appropriations Committee to secure for the state more than $10 billion worth of public works, and Jay Rockefeller, who championed Medicaid and helped develop the federal Children’s Health Insurance Program. Today, roughly one in four West Virginians get medical coverage through those programs.

But like the rest of Appalachia and the South, West Virginia has increasingly elected Republicans. West Virginia’s Republicans haven’t crusaded for smaller government in the way, say, former House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) once did, but they also have not supported major expansions of government programs, even as the state’s needs have quite obviously grown.

The national shift of more women into the workforce has increased the demand for child care, while an aging population living with more disabilities has increased the demand for long-term care, including home and community supports that let elderly and disabled people live in private homes and stay out of institutions. The latter need is especially acute in West Virginia, where the proportion of residents older than 65 is third highest in the nation.

All of that helps to explain why, in a recent report card on “care policies” by The Century Foundation, West Virginia was one of five states to get an F. The survey considered the quality, affordability and availability of a variety of programs, including child care and home care and paid leave for workers.

And although even the low-scoring states had some strong programs ― West Virginia, for example, has won praise for its universal pre-kindergarten initiative ― the overall level of support in these are, according to the report, “leaving families to scramble to manage work, care and family, creating impossible conflicts that lead to economic insecurity, poor health, added stress, and growing inequality.”

Manchin is hurting West Virginia. He seems to be using spending and inflation as his excuses for blocking Biden's legislation. He is even against the For the People Act to protect voting rights. He also seems to be hung up on getting Republican support and defending the filibuster. What do you think?
Huffington Post is a leftist site and is biased.

Funny, when i was visiting Scotland the country side was full of the archaic technology and the people there, were complaining about the high costs of energy. A progressive slave is dumber than dirt.

“Loosing”

Illiterate foreigner

There has been a massive amount of resources spent on West Virginia. Look at the cities. endless resources and the ghettos just do not go away. Cities more and more depend on suburbs, semi rural and rural areas of the state to pay for their useless ways. You speak of right wingnuts. But why are the city ghettos still here with all the money spent on them? In fact they are growing.

There are no "ghetto's" in WV. You have no clue what you are rambling about.

Wage stagnation of the last 50 or so years may have a wee bit to do with it!

FBI confirms there was no insurrection on Jan. 6
The Cambridge Dictionary defines “insurrection” as: “an organized attempt by a group of people to defeat their government and take control of their country, usually by violence”

By that definition, there was no “insurrection” at the United States Capitol on Jan. 6, according to the FBI. Reuters reports:

The FBI has found scant evidence that the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol was the result of an organized plot to overturn the presidential election result, according to four current and former law enforcement officials.
