60 years ago most americans did not have health insurance and health care was just fine and much much cheaper than it is now. When people pay their own medical bills three good things happen to keep costs down.

1. People take care of their health and when they got sick, they doctor themselves

2. People haggle with doctors over prices

3. There is very little fraud.

I can see the point of catastrophic health insurance but that should be it.

60 years ago a night in a hospital cost one day's salary of an average worker. Now it cost's $3,000 which is more like a month's salary.

60 years ago the technology wasn't nearly as sophisticated. That costs money.
What a stupid thing to say. During the last 60 years computers have gotten much more powerful and yet cheaper!!!
We're not talking just about computers. They're only a part of the equation. Technology doesn't mean just one piece of equipment, but many.

BTW, saying I'm stupid is also name-calling. The board notes that too.

Health care isn't something most people bargain and haggle and shop around for when their kid broke their back And arm, or in a car accident or when diagnosed with cancer etc.... time is usually of the essence and its not like we are simply a customer that can walk away from the "purchase" and wait till it goes on sale...

True market forces are not really present, to make it work as a widget purchase.

Yes, that's true, market forces aren't really present, because GOVERNMENT intervention has totally short circuited them, it explains why health care costs have gone through the roof and relative quality has declined ever since politicians have put their grubby, corrupt, money stealing mitts on the health care market.

Competition is what reduces costs and increases quality, government intervention has the opposite effect.

Whatever we do, we need to ensure that democrats can never pass such a freedom robbing piece of legislation like this again......

If we did that, how would the hospitals cover the cost of their XRAY machine 9 times every month?

Greasing the Skids for Medicare Phase Out
The most recent (2015) version of the Medicare Phase Out plan comes from Rep. Tom Price (R-GA). He's now being considered to be Secretary of Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), which would oversee phasing out Medicare.

Price just arrived at Trump Tower at about 3:20 PM.

Truly affordable health care will not be possible until the massive profits of those not directly involved in caring for patients are cut from the equation.
