We Must Fix The Supreme Court

The republicans should not have made abortion a political issue, since government should remain neutral in theological disputes.

U.S. Chamber of Commerce. This memo, later known simply as the Powell Memo, outlined a proposed response to what he considered a broad attack on the American economic system. Powell noted that up to that time the Supreme Court had been used as a leverage point by liberal groups. He specifically called out the ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union), and suggested the Chamber act as the “spokesman for American business”.

And abortion is big business... The story is starting to tell itself.

Like I said on another thread, you need psychiatric help. The part of the U.S. Code to which you refer deals with murder-for-hire.

In August 1971, Lewis F. Powell, Jr., sent a memo to the U.S. He suggested it participate in selected cases where it could have leverage.

Lewis Powell was nominated to the Supreme Court by President Richard Nixon, where he served as an Associate Justice from 1971 to 1987. His memo did not specifically suggest conservatives put judges and justices into the courts, but as the engine of right-wing power cranked up over the last five decades, the Republican Party has increasingly used court appointments to get conservative judgments, to the point where appointing judges and justices is now a fund-raising claim by the party.

This is the first of a series of four articles that discuss the impact on the U.S. Supreme Court made by this conservative objective, and how to remedy the problem it created. As the main political parties have sorted into ideological corners, with Republicans taking the extreme right corner and the Democrats loosely assembling in the left corner, it is not surprising they would take up strategies to pick jurists likely to represent their ideologies once on the Court. But the Republican Party has gone to such extremes to game the system, and has been so successful at it, that it has destroyed the legitimacy of the Court. The Court no longer represents the wishes or the needs of the public as a whole. As a result, the SCOTUS must be fixed.

Ending the filibuster is the only thing as important.

This country must rid itself of the lie of leftism if it wants to survive.
Can we rid ourselves of the lies of conservatives as well?

Humans lie, conservatives and liberals, in equal measure. That's what humans do. And in that regard, at least, Trump is SUPERhuman.

The Court is the savior of the people now. Try to stack it motherfuckers and see what happens. Court represents the majority of the moral people you communist piece of shit!
You don't even know what communism is, but you throw that word around all the time.

"From each according to his ability, to each according to his need." Now THAT'S communism. And under Marxism there is no need for any government at all once everything has been redistributed. I haven't seen anyone, right or left, advocating THAT.

The court is just fine, the way it is.

Especially now that the Orange Baboon-God is gone.

It is a (true) Conservative bulwark against the worst of the hor$e$hit that the worst-of-the-Left dreams up...

Checks and balances... checks and balances...

After appointment, Trump would have had no direct bearing on the court's decisions. Whether he remained president didn't matter. He appointed hard right wing judges, so their rulings will continue to have a hard right wing bias.
And they serve for life. His legacy.

More reason why we need more seats on the court to bring it back to the middle, and keep it there.
Democrats don't want the middle. They want leftists on the Court to mandate the leftist agenda.

It's interesting how the right constantly rants about the straw man they made up.

Removal from office in this qualification from holding future office are not bound to each other. The Constitution names both as a consequence of conviction, but it doesn't require one to do the other.

there is nothing in the Constitution that would prohibit Congress from convicting a former president and prohibiting them from running for office again

He appointed Judges from a list of Republican judges given to him. A pure Prog judge on the court like we have a few now would have backed up a Prog in the election if the situation was reversed. It is near always Party over anything else.

The constitution is not a list of "prohibitions." It's a list of "allowances." This means if the constitution doesn't allow it, it's not allowed. The gov't doesn't have unlimited power except what the constitution prohibits. It has powers limited to ONLY what the constitution says.

Term limits! Term limits for everyone!!

And the filibuster shouldn't go away, but it should require an actual commitment. Let's see those senators on the floor talking away like they used to have to.

I agree that it shouldn't go away. But what I do think is that the filibuster should be used to only delay a floor vote; not a cloture motion.

Just like how Democrats fix elections?

Term limits for all federal justices. 18 years or age out at 80. And to remove the politics from it... Have the term limit start in 2030. Meaning that whomever is on the bench in 2030 is going to be off by 2048. There is far too much to consider for judges in their 80's and 90's .

The Bill of Rights is where the list of prohibitions come into play. The enumerated powers are the allowances. Necessary and Proper Clause has been abused.

Disagree. Someone who is 87 can be briefed on what technological or informational advances are being made in society but do they truly understand them? Doubtful.

Narcissitic youth thinks that because they play video games and text on their iphones 24 hours a day that they are smarter than everyone else. Voting age should be raised to 25 because young people don't know shit about life, don't own property, and don't pay taxes.

The right-wing extremism of the USSC took a giant leap at the hands of Moscow Mitch and the a$$hole trump.

Not to mention the additional conservative corruption factor with the appointments and confirmations of Kavanaugh and Gorsuch.
