The slightest engine problem and your DEAD

future cars will be hooked into a massive highway of super conductors that produce limitless magnetism

Then of course, if there is an engine problem while flying, they would drop just like a helicopter and could very well land on people, peoples homes, stores and the cars that are being driven on the ground.

Planes aren't the most dangerous mode of Transportation. Trains are the most dangerous because planes keep falling on them.

We certainly don't need giant carcasses of steel plowing through the air as we do on the highways and streets. Bloated metal bubbles that serve to assuage the egos of the few endanger all of us already.
Personal transportation from point to point, perhaps similar to airborne bicycles, would be quite nice.

OK, I'll bite.

How do flying cars necessitate the existence of an engine in them?
You don’t need an engine if a genius can create a super conductor at room temp
You could ride the magnetic waves

Yes, and just think of all the pedestrians who will die when flying cars collide with people wearing jet packs.

.

Remember we heard autonomous vehicles will be here by 2018? They were testing in 2016 and then a few someones got killed. Today, we have the self-parking and autonomous retrieval system. It takes time to work the bugs out and few people will die before all the bugs are worked out.

LIght aircraft come with a parachute. Some people would look into an issue before assuming that something is inherently unsafe.

Such a system would require an enormous infrastructure investment so probably will never happen. Future cars, flying or not, will be autonomous since humans are terrible at such tasks compared to machines. And machines are getting smarter every year while us humans on the other hand... Flying cars will look a lot like today's drones, multi-engined so the loss of one is manageable. They will be short distance travelers so they won't need to go very fast.
