Taken from Thomas Jefferson's Inaugural Address:
Thomas Jefferson said:
Friends and fellow citizens: called upon to undertake the duties of the first executive office of our country, I... express my gratitude that you have been pleased to look towards me, to declare a sincere consciousness that the tasks are above my talents, and that I approach it with those anxious and awful presentiments which the greatness of the charge and the weakness of my powers so justly inspire. A rising nation, spread over a wide and fruitful land, traversing all the seas with the rich productions of their industry, engaged in commerce with nations who feel power and forget right, advancing rapidly to destinies beyond the reach of mortal eye- when I contemplate these transcendent objects, and see the honor, the happiness, and the hopes of this beloved country committed to the issues and the auspices of the day, I shrink from the contemplation, and humble myself before the magnitude of the undertaking...
...During the contest of opinion through which we have passed, the animation of discussion and of exertions has sometimes worn an aspect which might impose on strangers unused to think freely and to speak and to write what they think; but this being now decided by the voice of the nation, announced according to the rules of the Constitution, all will, of course, arrange themselves under the will of the law, and unite in common efforts for the common good. All, too, will bear in mind this sacred principle, that though the will of the majority is in all cases to prevail, that will, to be rightful, must be reasonable; that the minority possess their equal rights, which equal laws must protect, and to violate which would be oppression. Let us, then, fellow citizens, unite with one heart and one mind. Let us restore to social intercourse that harmony and affection without which liberty and even life itself are but dreary thing. And let us reflect that having banished from our land that religious intolerance under which mankind so long bled and suffered, we have yet gained little if we countenance a political intolerance as despotic, as wicked, and capable of as bitter and bloody persecutions. During the throes and convulsions of the ancient world, during the agonizing spasms of infuriated man, seeking through blood and slaughter his long-lost liberty, it was not wonderful that the agitations of the billows should reach even this distant and peaceful shore; that this should be more felt and feared by some and less by others; that this should divide opinions as a measure of safety. But every difference of opinion is not a difference of principle. We have called by different names brethren of the same principle. We are all Republicans- we are all Federalists.
If there be any among us who would wish to dissolve this Union or to change its republican form, let them stand undisturbed as monuments of the safety with which error of opinion may be tolerated where reason is left free to combat it. I know, indeed, that some honest men fear that a republican government cannot be strong; that this government is not strong enough. But would the honest partriot, in the full tide of successful experiment, abandon a government which has so far kept us free and firm, on the theoretic and visionary fear that this government, the world's best hope, may by possibility want energy to preserve itself? I trust not. I believe this, on the contrary, the strongest government on Earth. I believe it is the only one where every man, at the call of the laws, would fly to the standard of the law, and would meet invasions of the public order as his own personal concern. Sometimes it is said that man cannot be trusted with the government of himself. Can he, then, be trusted with the government of others? Or have we found angels in the forms of kings to govern him? Let history answer the question.
Let us, then, with courage and confidence pursue our own federal and republican principles, our attachment our union and representative government...

Conley, Your Kum bah yah incantations do nothing to hide very real divisions in our society.

These are the real questions on the table:

Should the goal of the U.S. be creating a one world market, regardless of government type?

Does the united states exist for the people of the united states, or does it exist to create a global power structure for the world elites?

they aren't my "Kum bah yah incantations"; they're Thomas Jefferson's.

Don't be riddiculous. Everyone here already knows what I will say, and they definitely know what RWA will say. Besides, his questions are wholly unrelated to the issue at hand, namely reconcilation between the two parties. Pointless questions such as those aren't worth addressing. If you're so concerned then you can answer them yourself.

Funny how suddenly its all about reconciliation between the two parties. My guess is that its because the Dems aren't going to be able to do jack shit without help from Senate repubs and the prez.

I don't see how they are "pointless questions". But, I am not surprised you don't want to answer them, as are many Americans. But I guess thats why he is asking the question. Probably because answering those questions forces all of us to evaluate the policies we've supported, and how in supporting them we look like hypocrits.

I guess the title wasn't as obvious as I thought it would be...
Regardless though, it's important that the parties rebuild there relations. Like it or not, you have to live with the other half of the country. It's only by working together that we can really accomplish anything. I genuinely hope that the Democrat's moves towards bipartisanship are well-intentioned. The Democrats have a lot to learn from the Republicans, and the Republicans have a lot to learn from the Democrats.

Nice deflection...
You didn't respond to my request to answer RWA's questions.

I'm waiting for the outreached hand of the Democrats, seems right now they are busy bickering amongst themselves. Do you really think they give a flying fig how conservatives feel, Mr. Conley?

The only time bi-partisanship occurs in politics is when both sides need a break to plan the next attack.

I think the leadership is more interested in maintaining power then in working with the Republicans; however, the Democrats have started making moves towards bipartisanship. Again, the Democrats are probably doing it simply so they can look good. On the other hand, the Republicans weren't the most hospitable either. I think it's an issue that both parties need to work on. I'm not sure which party is worse, and frankly I don't care. The important matter is that both parties are in error, and both need to start working together again.

The premise that his questions are real (Post #2). Those are far left conspiracy theory assumptions about a New World Order.

Does the united states exist for the people of the united states, or does it exist to create a global power structure for the world elites?

That question seems pretty straight forward to me. Answering may force you into defending a number of US policies tho.

There can be no reconciliation in the forseeable future, IMO. I'd say civil war is more likely. There's just too much distance between us.

A second civil war would be awesome with a great long-term benefit to this country.:bow2: Where can I sign up? I grew up in Yankee-Town and would make a great spy, or assassin.
