Watch what you invest in if you want to do business with Texas.

Imagine if New York required that anyone who wanted Government Contracts had to own stock in a Broadway play. Or if anyone wanted to do business with California, they had to own stock in a Tech Company. The Right Wing would be blowing blood vessels and screaming about how awful the Left is.

Texas has shown that they are just as crazy as the Liberal Lefties.

It seems if you may not have environmental policies that exceed the minimum Federal or State laws. You may not sell any stock in an Oil Company, you may not sell stock in a coal company. You must keep your money there. Or you don’t get to do business with Texas.

Let’s say you figure out a way to use Solar to provide the power your facility needs. Well too bad scooter. You just lost out on a contract with the State of Texas.

Frankly, this law is just one to show how crazy the left is, by going equally crazy in the other direction. Crazy isn’t a good thing, on the left or right. And Texas going full Right Wing Crazy, is dumb.

The other day, I was speaking to the Wife about the big changes since we were young. In the 1980’s, Reagan was a true believer. He could discuss off the cuff any number of issues, and why he believed as he did. He had principles, core beliefs. Ideals he held dear to his heart. Today, the only issues the Right and Left have is a sincere desire to destroy each other. They’ve gone full crazy, and you should never go full crazy. Texas would be wise to take note of that.
I've spent time in Texas in el Paso, Marfa, Alpine and Houston. I don't think much of Texas over all.

You do know that the initial estimates are that your law has reduced abortions in Texas by less than 10%.

But would you have a problem with a California requirement that anyone wanting to do business with California own stock in an Electric Vehicle company?

Board Dimtards here were claiming Texas outlawed abortion. surely they didn't lie.

Still having trouble with the word "divest?" In regard to stocks, it means selling all of your shares for the purpose of driving down a stock's value.
Incorrect, it simply means to sell your shares/property in a particular entity or sector.

Definition of divest

transitive verb
1a: to deprive or dispossess especially of property, authority, or title divesting assets to raise capital was divested of his rights divesting herself of all her worldly possessions encouraged the university to divest itself from fossil fuels

Doing so with the intent of crashing a stock would be "stock manipulation".

California stopped doing business with states that have "anti-LGBT" laws. I didn't hear you say anything about that.

Why didn't you read the entire link ?

Liberal states started it

Our research thus far shows that some companies are telling us and other energy-producing states one thing, and then turning around and telling their liberal clients in other states another thing,” Hegar said in a press release Wednesday. “On one hand, they push net-zero and other environmental, social and governance (ESG) policies and use their influence and the dollars under their management to limit access to capital for Texas oil and gas firms. Then these same firms tell Texas and other energy states that they’re committed to the fossil fuel sector.”

What part of the definition did you fail to understand?

Divestment simply means to sell property, stocks etc, it has no positive or negative connotation and is done for multitudes of reasons.

Divestment for purposes of crashing stocks would be stock manipulation.

These students and faculty are choosing to use divestment for that purpose but again, there are many reasons to divest. It's just part of their overall "cancel culture" mentality.

Silly girl, that's Different.

That's only acceptable for causes they support.

If you want to believe that this law is aimed at individual investors selling individual shares of stock, go ahead. Some day you will discover that the Earth is round.

I’ve been busy. So I haven’t replied as much as I might like.

That excuse is idiotic.

If someone does something wrong. That doesn’t give you the right to do something wrong too. The argument that they started it is juvenile. It is what siblings say when their Mother catches them fighting.

It is the old question she asked you when you said your friends were all doing something. If they jumped off a cliff would you?

California as one example is probably paying more for services they need. Construction and infrastructure repairs are mostly done by major corporations. Those corporations can be headquartered in an “unacceptable” state. That means the best choice for a company to do bridge repairs would be unavailable.

Boycotts are best done for the most serious reasons. An example. Russia right now. A war with millions displaced, and tens of thousands. Probably hundreds of thousands dead is a good reason.

But boycotts for nonsense or insignificant reasons means it loses its effect. It is viewed as a petty and self harming thing.

Take the perpetual boycott against Chik-Fil-A. Their business is booming. They don’t miss those who aren’t eating there. The people in line to get a sandwich aren’t there because they want to show those bastards that they aren’t driving this company out of business. The people buying the sandwich just want it.

In the 1970’s and 1980’s there was the usual Buy American calls to boycott foreign cars. But foreign cars were really good. Better than the American. Better in quality and better in value. So foreign cars sold. If you looked at the parking lot for the car companies, you saw a lot of foreign cars in the lot.

All Texas has done is show the world that the Oil Companies are vulnerable. And they need to be propped up.

So you don't see the value of the lives that were saved, eh? Typical murderous leftist remark.
Far less concerned with saving innocent lives than with bitching about an economic policy, apparently. I think the abortion issue could solve itself if state governments got creative. The Feds love to throw money at "Planned Parenthood" (evil damned, deceptive name) so instead, throw money at sterilizing every "birthing person" who chooses to have an abortion.

Want to end that unplanned, unwanted life you carelessly created? NO PROBLEM! Come on down to the clinic. We snuff the baby and sterilize you permanently so you never have to be bothered with an unwanted responsibility again.

Fossil fuels are anything BUT vulnerable. A day MAY come when a transition can happen but it certainly isn't today. In this country, the states generally have the autonomy to decide how they'll do business and with who. What guts a Democrat about that situation is the lack of control over the lives of others that they crave in most things. Don't agree with Texas policies? Invest or buy elsewhere.
I remember the long lines at gas stations and the limitations of total number of gallons per sale. That was 49 years ago. They were promising us that renewables, primarily solar and wind, would solve our problems in no time.

The REAL irony is that Moonbats did their best to destroy the ONE source that actually could have left most fossil fuels in the ground within a decade or two AND allowed EVs to become practical: nuclear power.

Texas seems to think they are Vulnerable. That’s why they passed the law. That’s why they are threatening companies with being essentially blacklisted for divesting from Oil Companies.

So I’d say that the evidence suggests, that Oil Companies are in fact, Vulnerable.
