Nope, but by their account they didn't recognize the man. They double tapped him, at least, then asked the woman in the room who he was.

Why do you think they didn't take the unarmed OBL alive when they certainly could have by their accounts? A live body is easier to move then a dead one.

Not capturing bin Laden did work to Bush's advantage in getting approval to invade Iraq. The American public never would have accepted it if bin Laden had been killed or captured
