God I haven't heard that song in a long time.

SAw CCR live singing this tune back in '69.

They were, at that time, the most popular group in America, partially, I think because they could make political statements that also rocked.

Like this for example:

"...let the people know my wisdom
Fill their land with smoke"​

Of course I might be somewhat prejudiced about the VN conflict, cause I ain't no Senator's son, know what I mean, troops?​

Now the second song, (Eve of Destruction) one that I truly liked back in the early 60s when I was a young kid still not smart enough to know that I was going to be involved in the war in Viet Nam, simply doesn't stand the test of time.​

It's too obvious, too preachy and not subtle enough to be good art.​

If a man's reach cannot exceed his grasp, then, what's a metaphor?​
