Discussing this in a thread about tattoos (don't ask hehe,) my mind gets to thinking how wasteful wars are. Those who volunteer or submit to fight a war represent the very best that country has to offer in terms of human resources. And yet, their lives are totally wasted when enemies during war, become friends during peace. Why would you sacrifice your life for your country, if your country then becomes best friends with the side that killed you? That's foolish. Since this is always how it turns out, wars end, peace resumes, why would anyone willingly sacrifice their life for their country?

Wars waste the very best people the countries fighting have. I think then, with how the US is right now, and considering how many wars we've had, our poor showing globally reflects loosing too many of our best and brightest. Instead of sending the best to their heroic, if ultimately pointless deaths, let's keep more of them around to become teachers and doers.
