Always valuable, but nowadays an essential value. This thread will share what sages have taught about the need for truth:

What we have in us of the image of God is the love of truth and justice.

Demosthenes

Truth is so obscure in these times, and falsehood so established, that unless we love the truth, we cannot know it.

Pascal

Any one entrusted with power will abuse it if not also animated with the love of truth and virtue, no matter whether he be a prince, or one of the people.

La Fontaine

Every one wishes to have truth on his side, but it is not every one that sincerely wishes to be on the side of truth.

Whately

The virtue of truth is ... it has the advantage of never having been tried.

The least initial deviation from the truth is multiplied later a thousandfold.

Aristotle

The first law for the historian is that he shall never dare utter an untruth. The second is that he shall suppress nothing that is true. Moreover, there shall be no suspicion of partiality in his writing, or of malice.

Cicero

For all things there is a final state of fact. This we know to be objective truth or reality. Once discovered it will be known that it was always that way and will always be that way. Thus truth is eternal and unchanging. ~ ding

Objective truth is discovered through a conflict and confusion process. Growth filled communities explore all sides of an issue to arrive at objective truth. ~ding

The only objective truths are from science.

Time's glory is to calm contending kings,
To unmask falsehood, and bring truth to light.

Shakespeare

There is no existence for the unreal and the real can never be non-existent. The Seers of Truth know the nature and final ends of both.

To the knower of Truth, all scriptures are of as little use as a small water-jug is during the time of a monsoon, when water is everywhere.

Bhagavad Gita

It is an objective truth that one should always look both ways when crossing a busy street. No science needed.
