A leading veterans group is calling on Fox News to take Bill O’Reilly off the air after it was uncovered that Fox News host lied about his history as a war correspondent.

In a statement, Jon Soltz, chairman of VoteVets.org, said, “NBC acted completely appropriately in taking Brian Williams off the air and looking into claims he’s made over the years. Fox News has to do the same thing. The issue, for me, isn’t that Fox has been caught off guard and didn’t realize O’Reilly was telling possibly false tales. That I can accept. It’s what do they do about it now? That will tell us a lot about how seriously they take their news organization.”

The 400,000 member organization VoteVets has it right. It is a matter of consistent treatment. The media is happily willing to overlook the fact that O’Reilly’s story makes no sense. O’Reilly’s has made up his own definition of a combat zone. Bill-O’s claim that he saw combat is similar to a journalist claiming that they were at Ground Zero on 9/11 while they were in Atlanta.

The odds of Fox News taking O’Reilly off the air are zero. The reason for this confidence is that Fox News isn't a real news organization. Fox doesn't care about their credibility because they don’t have any.

Exactly.

O'Reilly isn't a journalist and its accepted that Fox lies.

Neither Fox nor any of their talking head entertainers have ever been held accountable for their lies and that's not going to change.

RWs know that and they don't care.

Intelligent people just have to accept that.

Bill isn't a news anchor.

Just another example of lefties wanting to silence the opposition, since they can't win any arguement.

He has been and refers to himself as a veteran journalist. Plus he pretends to have the integrity of one. FOX is a smoke and mirrors/dog and pony show. Talking heads like O'Riley don't even follow commentator standards. He is at the same level as comedy guys like Jon Stewart, but he makes pretend that he is a serious journalist and tricks his viewers into believing it.

All because Brian Williams got caught.

One of ours goes down. One of yours goes down.

So you think the same about Hillary lying several times?

Why do you look at it that way? One of yours, one of ours. Both got caught being dishonest by embellishing, exaggerating or outright lying about being in combat situations. Both are individuals who have been earning good wages for informing the public about news. They both have presented themselves as honest and trustworthy. They both have been caught misleading their supporters and the public. The big difference seems to be that Williams took his punishment and O'Riley has not. Williams followers have rejected him and accepted the facts. O'Riley's fans have not. They seem to insist that rules are made for others, but not for them.
Why don't we investigate more spokespersons and news commentators and journalist and fire all the ones who turn out to be liars, regardless of who they work for.

Just exactly what you would expect from an organization that only endorses Democrats and foreign policy appeasement.

I don't watch O'Reilly so it really doesn't matter to me, but was it him that said he was under attack and had to run for cover when he got off an airplane in Bosnia some years back? Then it was shown that was total BS. Or was that someone who ran for President and wanted to enhance their resume with combat experience? My memory is getting so spotty!

What a shame for liberals that O'Reilly has documentary proof to counter Mother Jones puff hit piece.

Voters have the say about who lies and whether a lie is serious enough to have repercussions. Their are often fine lines between embellishment, exaggeration, misinterpretation, misunderstanding, and a host of other descriptive words for telling less than the truth. We even have a phrase called "fog of war" to cover the misrepresentations not covered by the ordinary words.
Bottom line is that we all know politicians can be less than honest and even outright liars. We hold our journalist and news reporters to a higher standard, or at least have in the past. It wasn't that long ago that Williams would not have been suspended. He would have been fired in disgrace and sent packing with little if any credibility or chance of redemption. Same for O'Riley. That is because their jobs are dependent on private interest. The private business views the firing or keeping of a liar as a business decision. In the past, the reputation of the business would be dependent on how it handled these kinds of situations. Today, not so much.

Yawn.....

VoteVets.org is organized as a non-partisan political action committee (PAC) ... "closely aligned with Congressional Democrats," and "liberal" in news stories.

Well that sounds like a reasonable excuse to ignore 400,000 veterans.
