-Pressured by strict U.S. sanctions, Venezuela’s oil exports plunged by 376,500 barrels per day (bpd) in 2020, according to Refinitiv Eikon data and internal documents from state-run PDVSA, financially squeezing socialist President Nicolas Maduro.

The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump also put curbs on PDVSA’s main trading partners, the owners of tankers still transporting Venezuelan oil and on fuel supply to the gasoline-thirsty nation.

The punishment, aimed to oust Maduro after his 2018 re-election was called a sham by most Western nations, has led PDVSA to pursue new customers, rely on mostly unknown intermediaries to resell its oil and deepen ties with Iran, another country under U.S. sanctions.

Ya can't designate them as enemies and then get upset when they work with countries that will interact with them.

It's likely that Biden's administration will see fit to direct US taxpayer "relief" to Venezuela.....in the name of humanitarian help, of course.
All of which will be administered by Maduro, of course.

I expect Cuba will also get a lot of US taxpayer assistance as well under democrats.
In both cases, the people will see none of it.......dictators and their regimes will enjoy all of it.

We blame their problems on Socialism when their problems are largely rooted in U.S. greed.

This also goes to show another case where we try and interfere in the elections of others and then wonder why we get the same in return. (even though there never has been proven anyone has actaully done anything here)

Considering how poorly run the country is and how they are unable to keep their infrastructure up and running is the decrease due to the sanctions or due to an inability to maintain oil production and refining?

That's a good question. They just had one refinery explosion in October. Several years ago the argument was made that the equipment was not maintained and that hindered their ability to meet what OPEC required.

They put party cronies in charge and lots of the foreign and local experts got the hell out of dodge.
