“It looks like we are going to be able to go home and tell people we didn’t raise their taxes,“ state Sen. R. Creigh Deeds, D-Bath, said during a Senate floor debate over House Bill 1349 at the close of the assembly’s legislative session in March.

“But with this bill, we are going to tell some people they are going to have to pay more to file their taxes.“

So much for those campaign promises from McDonnell...

Except he didnt raise taxes. So other than being completely misleading, just like your other story, you got it right.
And if he had raised taxes you would be arguing it was the right thing to do to close the budget deficit. At least as long as he was a Democrat.

Yawn... a misleading thread title trying to make a mountain out of a molehill...

Oooooooooooo.. people may have to pay a small fee (all people who use the privilege of filing quickly online) to file their tax return... what next? Complaining that they have to put a stamp on it if they mail it and not having the state pay the postage for them?

I get it. When a republican raises taxes, it's a small fee.

When a democrat raises taxes it's the end of liberty.

Oh come on.....you righties are ALL over any fee or whatever you can blame on Obama, yet you won't apply the same measure of fault to your own???

It's not an official tax, but it's basically deferred (if that's the right word). Tax money was going to run the government provided online filing service, and now it'll be privately run with fees charged to it. If the tax payers aren't going to get a tax break in lieu of this, then it's basically a deferred tax to keep using the system. They'll take the money that was being used to provide the service and apply it elsewhere.

I'd liken it to a tax maintained road becoming a toll road.

It's not a tax increase - he ended a transfer payment of giving something for free to certain people that is subsidized by taxpayers.

So, then you have no issue with the pissing and moaning of Caterpillar as it pertains to "Obamacare"?

The Peoria company said Wednesday that the health care overhaul President Barack Obama signed this week will reduce the tax deduction it receives for its retiree health care program.

the nanny state is OVER...thank God, I hope McDonnell does even more cuts and start on cutting social programs!

I think I will send him a letter and request for them to end the property tax on owning a Vehicle and also request that he cut the Prisoner Reentry funds.

"Any fee or whatever"??? WTF??
Do you not understand the difference between a tax and a fee for using a valuable service? People who mailed their taxes in pay exactly the same as they did before. That isn't a tax increase.
Quit trying to make some kind of equivalence here. Dems raise taxes. Republicans lower taxes.

Take the TV and Computers out from prisons is a good start too.

Blowing a gasket doesn't make your opinion piece any less hypocritical....

Caterpillar is doing the proper thing with its financial statements. The pissing and moaning is coming from Congress, led by Henry Waxman, questioning their GAAP accounting.

So, Obama did NOT raise taxes on business like Caterpillar, then right?
