The Uvalde police chief and a spokesperson for the Uvalde Independent School District did not immediately respond to requests for comment from ABC News.

Something's up with that. It would make sense that the school district officials, specifically the superintendent, would have been in contact with the Police Chief during that long period of standing by while the killer rampaged. Why would they not?

I'm guessing neither the Chief, nor the Superintendent, would want their conversation exposed to the public, so they agreed to keep their mouths shut lest one rat out the other.
