If there was a useless overabundance of materials there should be labs that just stay in lounging operation for 200 years until they can find as many uses for it. One example might be desert sand in the Sahara or Sudan where they are sobbing about that stuff. As for just making things up that sand can be used in car tires or the pavement for traction. Maybe its too expensive to ship it over oceans but Europe is just right there and per load it would be cheap. Maybe if the sand is stripped enough there is something better under there. it could be about anything considered mass waste or things you ignore that's everywhere.

Oh and you're seriously mistaken, sand is the second largest used resource in the world and we're running out....... Desert sand is the wrong kind of sand so it's pretty much worthless. The world uses 50 billion tons every year and that amount is growing.
