The International Criminal Court has released a report claiming to have a reasonable basis to believe that the USG tortured 61 prisoners in Afghanistan and 27 others at various CIA detention sites. They have yet to decide if they will open a full investigation. The USG says "no thanks, we police our own".

U.S. says war crimes probe of U.S. forces in Afghanistan unwarranted

Many of you voted against Clinton because you thought she acted above the law. Doesn't the USG act above the law and if so why would you feel it acceptable?

It is interesting that the first US president to ever be elected by promising to commit more war crimes, defamed his opponent as criminal

The US government has long been above the law and not just on the treatment of prisoners of war.

Are you just now figuring this out?

OMG! Not "THE" International Criminal Court, surely?!

This is earth-shaking stuff!

In other forums I've long complained that we have become the bad guys. That we torture doesn't surprise me. That they've located a ft doesn't surprise me. I'd expect the number to go higher, much higher.

Hopefully Trump will bring back waterboarding, because it works. Those laws from treaties we've signed don't apply to terrorists as they are not military from any state.

Yea, is this court going to go after Muslims that are chopping people's heads off and burning them in cages? I guess those aren't war crimes.

The ICC is currently trying to pretend it has any redeemable qualities at this point because of the number of countries withdrawing from it. They can be "selective". The ICC could run 20 investigations but can't do anything about them. The US did not sign on that.
Our foreign policy has not changed in 100 years. The difference is there is such blatant, in your face exploitation. It's like watching the CEOs of the auto industry run it into the ground.

This is an empire. Empire doesn't sound as cool as "super power". With that status should come a sense of responsibility. Right now the people in these other countries are numbers (they aren't human) like the US people have become.

The question is, do you believe that the International community should be investigating Americans for possible criminal prosecution?

But the United States have never ratified the International Criminal Court treaty.
I think the Court can't do any full investigation... :eusa_think:
Maybe American military justice can do that

Yes, the USG has already claimed to have investigated itself. But in the context of this thread, that is equal to allowing Clinton to investigate her own abuses.

They can prosecute all they want but nothing will happen

Of course you are right, but why do you find it acceptable that the US is not accountable for its perversion of internationally accepted behavior?

It is not acceptable, but it is reality.

So I will ask again. You are okay with Americans being put on trial for war crimes?
