Federal Spending Where Does the Money Go

61% including Veteran's Benefits. Are we planning to take over the world or something?

Let me be a Republican.

Oh yea, well the COTUS provides for self defense, And offense when needed. And beside that, we have a lot of military contractors who give a lot of money to political parties. Especially Repubs.

And all that other money we spend? That's all welfare and the COTUS makes no provision for welfare. SO get rid of it. Defense/offense only.

How'd I do as a Republican?

That's proposed "discretionary" spending, it comes out of Other Spending (6% of the total budget)...... But you knew that...... and wanted people to believe your pie chart represented the total budget.......
Or you were too stupid to realize which chart you were looking at...... You tell me which. :dunno:

Here's the total budget breakdown:
chart

Actually, Discretionary Budget IS THE BUDGET that Congress appropriates, and that the President submits as what he would like to spend our income taxes on.

The Mandatory budget, which is what Social Security and Medicare tax funds and distribution falls, is funded automatically, and NOT money spent that Congress critters has to appropriate...

The Discretionary budget IS THE JOB OF CONGRESS/the President.....and comes from Income taxes primarily.

This is what should be discussed and debated....SEPARATELY from the Mandatory.

President Johnson combined the Mandatory Budget with the Discretionary Budget in the 1960's to DISGUISE from the American public, HOW MUCH of our Income tax dollars was being spent on the Vietnam War.... by adding the Mandatory Budget in with their normal discretionary budget, it made the percentage of money spent look much much much much lower for the country's Vietnam War/Defense.

I repeat, the Discretionary Budget is the Budget that Congress/the President...works with, so Delta is correct in analyzing this Discretionary budget, ALL on it's own.

Bottom line, the thread op's pie was incorrect for his title and Ringel05 is correct, along with my graph.

His title states budget. His graph is for discretionary which is a small portion of the overall budget. Discretionary +mandatory=budget.
Sure, it needs to be discussed, but described and represented properly.

Blame the legislators who made defense spending discretionary while making welfare non-discretionary. It allows the dishonest to hide all sorts of stuff. Same with baseline budgeting, which the dishonest use to claim an increase in spending is a draconian cut.

The 2015 budget has already been finalized through the FY and it did not reflect the presidents wish list of his proposed budget, that makes this whole thread moot.

Defence spending is 18% of the budget, nimrod. Where did you get the commie propaganda chart you posted?
The chart says right on it that this is for our Discretionary budget....which means it is the budget for spending our income taxes and excise tax monies and corporate tax monies collected by the government to RUN our country.

The Mandatory budget is paid for by separate PAYROLL SS/Medicare etc taxes collected and are paid out from those separate taxes collected. Surely you KNOW THIS????

So the discretionary spending IS THE ONLY MONEY CONGRESS APPROPRIATES. It Is what should be debated and analyzed by itself.

MANDATORY budget is set up to be spent automatically, where congress does not appropriate.
