People who complain about CEO pay are those who derive their knowledge from television shows. They show a CEO in his huge office, he has a large breasted 25 year old with long blond hair as his secretary, and when she's not sitting on his lap behind his huge office desk, he's practicing his putts on his putting green in his office.

Intellectual property.... Interesting concept... but I think the result of that would simply be that companies would just create their own products.
Would they then just create their own patents and monopolies?
Their own courts maybe?
Their own reality?

Working Paper: Is Intellectual Property the Root of All Evil? Patents, Copyrights, and Inequality - Center for Economic and Policy Research

"This paper raises three issues on the relationship between intellectual property and inequality.

"The first is a simple logical point.

"Patents, copyrights, and other forms of intellectual property are public policy.

"They are not facts given to us by the world or the structure of technology somehow.

"While this point should be self-evident, it is rarely noted in discussions of inequality or ways to address it."

So you are going to drive millions of people into poverty by jacking up the cost of fuels?.... and them give them a thousand dollars to make up for it?
Who's jacking up the cost of fuels?
Fossil fuels are a social liability, and the sooner they disappear from the scene the better for humanity

Energy Production: is Short-Termism Killing our Planet?

Yeah, and people in those countries live poorer.

Albania 100% renewable? Do you see Albania as a first world country?

Screenshot_2020-11-22 poor albania - Google Search.png

But hey! 100% renewable energy! At least while they are dying in poverty, they can celebrate the big green energy companies are making a killing on them.

Right? That's what matters?

You realize that in Albania that usage of electricity per person, is about 2,000 kWh per year, while in the US it's about 13,000 kWh per year?

You want to make everyone poorer, like Albania, so we can have 100% renewable energy?

Because that's how you do it. The only way to get everyone on renewables is to reduce how much they use.

This is why in Venezuela, when the government nationalized the power companies, and went all renewables.... they had nation wide black outs, and put in place power restrictions to reduce how much electricity everyone used.

OR.... you jack up the price, so that they can't afford to use as much power.

Germany is celebrated as being a leader in renewables.... you know how much they are paying for power on average? 40¢ per kWh. Comparatively, the US average is 15¢ per kWh. And that's the average. Here in Ohio, my electric bill is 9.8¢ per kWh.

You want to almost quadruple the cost of power on the poorest people in this country?.... because I'm sure living in poverty, they'll be happy about it because they are saving the planet, while they languish in poverty.

In Germany, most people don't have Air Conditions, don't have clothes driers, don't even have electric fans, don't use lights... literally lights... when the sun goes down, they don't typically turn the lights on.... most don't have dishwashers... Because electricity is so expensive. Thousands of things we take for granted they don't use, because their electric bill would be $200, for what in the US would be $50.

But you don't care about harming the poor, when it comes to your green energy mythology, do you? AOC type people never care about the consequences to the poor.

And by the way, it is a mythology. When Germany shut down all their nuclear power plants, they didn't start up a bunch of renewable energy. They had to make up the loss of power, by getting purchasing agreements from other countries... namely France, which uses nuclear power.

It's mythology. You can't run an entire modern 1st world society off of renewable power.

So if the profits from the oil in Alaska only has the ability to provide $1,000 per resident, when Alaska only has 700,000.... why would you conclude that you can provide $1,000 per month, to 330 Million people?
Because a national UBI wouldn't be paid for with Alaskan oil.

There isn't enough Alaskan oil to provide 5% of US citizens with a $1000 check.

Private courts have existed for thousands of years, moron, and you can't have a monopoly that isn't government enforced.

As for their own reality, you should be the last person to ridicule that idea.

Oh yeah. It's beyond stupid. Remember that movie Margin Call with Kevin Spacey, and Jeremy Irons played the CEO, who says "Speak as might to a young child or a golden retriever. It wasn't brains that got me here, I can assure you of that".

And he had to fly in on a helicopter, because he was off somewhere else in the world, and after the crash, he's up in the pent house eating a steak.

The movie, other than that part wasn't entirely bad or wrong, but the way they portray CEOs is ridiculous.

I have never had a CEO like that. At my last job, the CEO showed up a 6 AM, worked until 6 PM. He was always the first in the office in the morning, and few stayed past 6 PM when he left. That was every single day of the week.

You read any of the numerous examples of CEOs describing their typical day... not one is "sit at beach. Wait for others to send me pay checks. Ask for martini and bikini babes. Watch sun set. Watch movie at penthouse, and then go to bed.".

No one does that. It shows how ridiculously stupid the American public is, that they are swayed by the ridiculous portrayals of the moronic media. Like they are a Scrooge McDuck cartoon, spending their days swimming through vaults of gold. So dumb.... these people...

Another thing is CEO's often have failed marriages. Many live out of their suitcase or frequently move to another city or state when they change jobs which makes it very rough to have a quality family life.

Some say a CEO doesn't do anything. And how would you know that? Okay, if he doesn't do anything, why don't you become a CEO yourself if it's so easy? As the old saying goes, the grass is always greener on the other side. The truth is it takes a lot of education and experience to be a high paid CEO. You need to have a long record of accomplishments. Not all CEO's earn million dollar paychecks either.

They tell us companies should liquidate much of a CEO's pay so they can give more to their workers. Without that CEO, there might not be any workers at all. If you operate a drill press for $15.00 an hour, it means your employer can sell your work for $25.00 an hour. No company would pay a CEO 2.5 million dollars if they were not bringing in 3.5 million dollars of revenue for the company.

$12,000 a year, about 333 million Americans.
$4 trillion a year? About 18% of GDP.

How much are the rest of us going to be taxed for this moronic scheme?

"Patents, copyrights, and other forms of intellectual property are public policy.

"They are not facts given to us by the world or the structure of technology somehow.

"While this point should be self-evident, it is rarely noted in discussions of inequality or ways to address it."

Well first.... for my own position, I disagree with all Intellectual Property right laws.

If you didn't know, Intellectual Property, was first created by government, for the benefit of government.

The UK government, created Intellectual property of selling salt. Only one company, the company run by the government of the UK, could sell salt. The process for producing salt, was the "intellectual property" of the government.

This was to create a monopoly that benefited the British Crown.

The irony is, you are spinning it right around, to benefit the elites in our government, just like the British royalty did, when they created it.

Poor get poorer, and rich get richer... and left-wingers like you celebrate this. You want Intellectual Property to be used to benefit the wealthy elite in the US government, while the rest of us suffer... and think we should be happy about it.

So I'm against Intellectual Property rights. I believe in a free market. If someone else can create a better product, they should be able to sell that product on a free-market. I don't think there should be any intellectual property rights at all.

Now for the sake of clarification, I do believe in copy right, and trademarks. I should not be able to buy a product that you sell... slap my name on it, and call it my product, and sell it for a profit. Nor should I be able to make my own product, slap your label on it, and make a profit off your name.

Would they then just create their own patents and monopolies?
Their own courts maybe?
Their own reality?

No "monopoly" can exist without government. You can't stop other people from competing with you, in a free-market. This requires that government create the monopoly.

From the 1950s to the 2000, the US government through the FCC, had 48 "white spaces" in the broadcast spectrum for TV channels. TVs were always sold with an 12 channel dial. Yet how many TV channels were there for about 50 years? Only 3. ABC, NBC, and CBS.

Why was that? Because the FCC prevented anyone else from competing. In the late 90s, UPN tried to start their own channel. They were prevented from being in the low-band 2-13, that most TVs had. They were forced by the FCC into the UHF band, that far fewer people could access.

UPN failed, and was sold to CBS (through a series of mergers and moves), and from 1999 to 2006, was eventually shut down.

This Tri-opoly of the 3 big channels couldn't stop UPN from growing and becoming a broadcast channel. But one government agency, the FCC could destroy the entire company.

That's the reality. In a freemarket capitalist system, no monopolies can exist. Only with socialist government regulation and intervention can monopolies ever exist.

And that claim always cracks me up. Pay the CEO less, so the workers have more. Did these people ever take a math class? Like in Middle School?

CEO of Walmart - $20 Million salary.
Employees of Walmart - 2.2 million.

$20 Million divided by 2.2 Million = $9.09. For the whole year.

Of course that's not even possible, since only $4.7 Million is cash. The rest is stock, which you can't pay employees with, since they wouldn't be able to sell it for 10 years, like the CEO.

$4.7 Million divided by 2.2 million = $2.13.

So now you have no CEO of the company, and all the workers got, was $2.13 for the entire year. And without a good CEO, we know what happens to companies... they fail. Like Enron, or Apple in the 1990s, Countrywide, Worldcom, Sun Microsystems, and the list goes on.

All so that the employee can get two bucks instead of paying for a good CEO.

Ridiculous.

It worked at Gravity Payments. The "minimum wage" over there is seventy thousand per year.

his topic seems to come up every so often, and one day it may happen, especially with a Biden/Harris admin. What they don't seem to realize is we'll get hyper-inflation and that $1000 would be better used as toilet paper.
Why haven't we seen any results from Alaska that would support your errant hyper-inflation hypothesis?

Wouldn’t Unconditional Basic Income Just Cause Massive Inflation?

"In 1982, Alaska began providing a partial basic income annually to all its residents.

"Until the first dividend, Alaska had a higher rate of inflation than the rest of the United States.

"But ever since the dividend was introduced, Alaska has had a lower rate of inflation than the rest of the United States."

It's Alaska....dumbass.
Will you miss him,

Loon.

And when 100 Million people are living off the government, all the taxes in the world won't be enough to generate the money needed to pay them.
What percentage of those 100 million Americans would use their stipend differently?

For example, in parts of Europe those receiving unemployment benefits have the option of finding another ten or twelve individuals who are also receiving UE benefits and pool their total benefits and receive a one time payout.

IOW all recipients would receive a one-time payment amounting to their total benefit package at one time if they provide a realistic plan of starting their own business.

My comment was merely the point that star players are hundreds of times more compensated than those who perform the menial labor below them. Companies are no different. The CEO is the star player, and I never hear any criticism from the left about entertainers being compensated the same way.
That's bullshit. I know *I* don't pay that much money to see professional sports stars in action. A company? That's different. A lot different. People have to go to work and produce. The wheeling and dealing of empire-building CEOs doesn't add a whole lot of value to some of those companies for the salaries they're paid.

Companies not to invest in. High executive turnover, golden parachutes, poison pills, etc., etc.

That's bullshit. I know *I* don't pay that much money to see professional sports stars in action.

Yeah, and you are not directly paying a CEO either. You are not paying the CEO of Walmart $20 Million... just like you are not paying Will Smith, $45 Million.

Will Smith, makes nearly double how much money the CEO of Walmart does.

And here's the kicker.... Will Smith's $45 Million is cash. The CEO of Walmart only gets $4.7 Million in cash. The rest is in stock in the company, which if the company does badly before he is legally able to sell the stock, he loses money.

People have to go to work and produce. The wheeling and dealing of empire-building CEOs doesn't add a whole lot of value to some of those companies for the salaries they're paid.

First off... unless you are a shareholder in the company, it's not your money. It's THEIR money. They earned it. It's their money to do with as they please.

I wager if I knew your personal finances, I would find many things that I think are a waste of money in your budget.

But it's none of my business, is it? Right. And what the company decides to pay their CEO, is none of your business. Mind your own business. Worry about yourself.

You are not paying that CEO wage. And if the company didn't pay the CEO wage, it wouldn't go to you, so what do you care?

There are 1.7 Million traditional corporations operating in the US. How many examples do you have, of CEOs not producing value to the corporation, comparable to their pay? How many?

Because I have investments in a dozens of companies, and I've doubled my investment value, from how much I've put in. Clearly they are doing a good job in my opinion.

Based on what, would you claim they are not? Can you give me an example?

Even if you could, I doubt you really know what is going on. For example Tim Cook at Apple Computer, you might have said for the last few years, that Apple really hasn't done anything spectacular. But just last month, Apple unveiled that they had been developing their own micro processor, and it turns out it is faster than comparable Intel chips, uses a faction of the power, and is cheaper to manufacture.

Before this, you might have said "Tim Cook is way over paid for how little value he has added to Apple", and that's because you didn't know they were working hard behind the scenes to come up with a competitor to AMD and Intel, that is superior.

You don't know what all value CEOs have been creating, because you are not there, and you are not in the executive board room discussions. The people who do know if a CEO is producing good results, are the same people that decide how much his compensations package is.
How unfortunate that we only achieved full employment and a restructuring of our economy to a higher standard of living when Government told CEOs what to do.

Unemployment compensation is not welfare but a comprehensive insurance program that should actually solve for something, like simple poverty not nothing on a for-profit basis as right wingers would prefer.
Why should an insurance policy that covers temporary expenses associated with job loss attempt to solve poverty? That's not what it was designed for.
He sees the word "unemployment" in the name and assumes it covers him when he just doesn't want to work. And he won't deviate from it.
Individual liberty and natural rights, what is That sayeth the right wing in non-socialism threads.
Prove me wrong.
Individual liberty and natural rights already proved you wrong. You don't even understand the concepts only your right wing propaganda.

Individual liberty is enabled by equal protection of our at-will employment laws in any conflict of laws. UC codes cannot conflict with established federal doctrine or State Constitutions. Thus, employment is at the will of either party even for UC purposes.
You don't get it, your opinion doesn't count. Quote the actual law that establishes your right to collect UC when you don't qualify for it.
You get it even less. The actual law is equal protection of the laws. The State has no right to deny or disparage our privileges and immunities through unequal protection of the laws.

What percentage of those 100 million Americans would use their stipend differently?

Depends. Your idea would cost Americans so much money that there would be nothing left after you pay $500.000 for a month of natural gas or propane heat, or $11.00 per gallon of gasoline.

How unfortunate that we only achieved full employment and a restructuring of our economy to a higher standard of living when Government told CEOs what to do.
That's how they became CEOs. It's the revolving door of politics between big business and big government.
Big business has always welcomed big government, because that serves their interests of driving smaller competitors out of business.

"Full employment" is a socialist/communist myth which necessitates death camps and labor camps for the unemployed. I was abused and underpaid as a slave at work. Two college degrees, and never enough to pay for independent housing and transportation.

The bosses wanted me in bed, or in someone else's bed, and they did not value the work I was able to do based on my education, training, and talents.
