Unions Beat Billionaires: Voters in Massachusetts just ratified the Fair Share Amendment, which taxes income above $1 million to fund public services

In the glory days of the 1950’s. Each tax bracket was progressively higher. As you earned more you paid more.

That was ended by JFK. Another of those filthy Democrats.

It was well and truly buried by Reagan.

But. We used to do it. During the period of time you idiots on the Right claim to want to return to. The Nuclear Family. Dad working. Mom pregnant in the kitchen cooking dinner.

The 1950's were hardly "glory days". The poverty rate that those taxes caused is a lot higher than what we've seen since.

And the reality was, with all of the tax exemptions, the wealthiest ended up paying less than the middle class did.

Voters in Massachusetts have shown us that with clear, broadly appealing messaging and strong labor union support, it’s possible to take on the rich and win billions for the public services we rely on. THIS is the model for the rest of America, NOT Florida!

And let the exodus begin. They're going to find out how mobile money and the wealthy are.

You Moon Bats are always confused about the 1950s.

During that time of great economic growth the combined Federal, State and Local taxation was less than 20% of GDP. Nowadays it is pushing close to 40% of GDP. Understand the problem now?

There were high tax brackets but there were also tremendously more deductions. Very few people paid the high rates.

I'll gladly trade a higher tax bracket like we had then for the significant lesser government spending and the same IRS deductions that were available. You Moon Bats wouldn't like it.

JFK was a weak piece of shit and a scumbag (like Slick Willy) but the one thing he got right was understanding that lower taxation was better for the economy.

So help me out. When we are told we have to Make America Great Again. What do you all mean? If not the heyday of the nonexistent Nuclear Family, and not the era of Apollo. Then when were you hoping to revisit to make us great?

And the rich will move...the politicians will collect the money, and not fund their public pension funds.....and the unions will be screwed......a win win for the democrat party. Like here in Illinois...the democrats refused to fund the pensions as the law requires, and now they just passed the Workers Rights act...where they can tax as much as they have to to make up the funding they refused to give to the pension funds............insane....

And the industrial base of the rest of the world either did not exist....Asia.....or was destroyed by the socialist war.....Europe......we had industrial supremacy around the world...we don't have that anymore...

As a Massachusetts resident for almost a quarter century, this place is a shithle of monumental proportions.

Question #1 will punish millionaires, AND also include anyone whose capital gains and income exceed $1,000,000 in a year. See that $700K house in Charlestown and have 2 Boston-sized incomes - you’re over thst $1,009,000 mark and now your taxes go up 80%.

We also voted to allow illegals to get drivers licenses, force dental insurance companies to increase their rates and thankfully defeated an initiative to increase corporate liquor licenses at the expense of family businesses and

Got it wrong 75% of the time.

Most people who earn more than a million bucks a year have more than one residence. They will simply change their home of record to one of their other homes in another state.

Taxing the rich more is never the answer to our fucked up tax system.

It's a shiny object which makes the rubes feel good, though.

/——-/ Another democRAT flop in the making. Billionaires don’t get rich by being stupid with money. Their tax lawyers and CPAs will find a work around and they can always move to a tax friendly state. Then what?

Yep...then zero taxes from that millionaire and billionaire......and more tax money for Texas, Arizona, Tennessee and all the other Red States.......

This is the biggest threat to America since communists managed to get under the beds of American children.

Communist aren't under children's beds... Communists just give them back rubs.

I've always been right here.

This is a remake of a post I made during the 2012 election cycle:

Given he didn't "earn" all that according to the IRS, nor even inherit it, what has he actually done to deserve it relative to everyone else?
He built a wildly successful company, that's what. His wealth is based on the value of the stocks he owns in his company.

Your post reminds me of something I posted years ago when Democrats were attacking Romney's wealth.
