Unemployment Rate Dips to 5.5%

Great news

Cue in Conservatives whining about Labor Participation Rate being the key economic factor

So we should see the record number of people on gov assistance to start dropping any day now....right?

We still need to work on salaries

Since you are so concerned, don't you think it is time to raise minimum wage to $10 an hour?

Nope..it's time people tried to better themselves and not rely on artificial wage increases.

wow, people actually believe this crap

no wonder we are so screwed

I will never understand why the government messaging of labor statistics has to be a partisan issue. When the Republican are in office, THEY do it, and the people on the left complain about it, and folks on the right turn a blind eye and act stupid and ignorant. Then when the reverse happens, the folks on the left pretend their big daddies don't do the same.

PEOPLE, quit letting your egos get invested in your favorite politicians and your political parties. The nation is in trouble! The economy has been seriously crippled since the passing of NAFTA, fiat currency, and market manipulations by global trading houses, and globalist politicians from BOTH parties are to blame! American industry, American living standards, and American jobs are the cost!

More internationalist trade policies are on the way.

The Big Lie: 5.6% Unemployment

The Big Lie 5.6 Unemployment

"None of them will tell you this: If you, a family member or anyone is unemployed and has subsequently given up on finding a job -- if you are so hopelessly out of work that you've stopped looking over the past four weeks -- the Department of Labor doesn't count you as unemployed. That's right. While you are as unemployed as one can possibly be, and tragically may never find work again, you are not counted in the figure we see relentlessly in the news -- currently 5.6%. Right now, as many as 30 million Americans are either out of work or severely underemployed. Trust me, the vast majority of them aren't throwing parties to toast "falling" unemployment.

There's another reason why the official rate is misleading. Say you're an out-of-work engineer or healthcare worker or construction worker or retail manager: If you perform a minimum of one hour of work in a week and are paid at least $20 -- maybe someone pays you to mow their lawn -- you're not officially counted as unemployed in the much-reported 5.6%. Few Americans know this.

Yet another figure of importance that doesn't get much press: those working part time but wanting full-time work. If you have a degree in chemistry or math and are working 10 hours part time because it is all you can find -- in other words, you are severely underemployed -- the government doesn't count you in the 5.6%. Few Americans know this.

There's no other way to say this. The official unemployment rate, which cruelly overlooks the suffering of the long-term and often permanently unemployed as well as the depressingly underemployed, amounts to a Big Lie.

And it's a lie that has consequences, because the great American dream is to have a good job, and in recent years, America has failed to deliver that dream more than it has at any time in recent memory. A good job is an individual's primary identity, their very self-worth, their dignity -- it establishes the relationship they have with their friends, community and country. When we fail to deliver a good job that fits a citizen's talents, training and experience, we are failing the great American dream.

Gallup defines a good job as 30+ hours per week for an organization that provides a regular paycheck. Right now, the U.S. is delivering at a staggeringly low rate of 44%, which is the number of full-time jobs as a percent of the adult population, 18 years and older. We need that to be 50% and a bare minimum of 10 million new, good jobs to replenish America's middle class."

Que the progtards to IGNORE this or call it BUNK in 3... 2... 1...

These numbers under Bush the lamestream lapdog leftie media and their cult followers would have been screeching:

omg, how terrible

yep, we are swimming up a shit creek without a paddle with this kind of propaganda being fed

If the people doing low wage jobs today find ways to obtain better jobs that pay more money, the jobs they leave as they move ahead will still need to be filled by someone. People better themselves all the time. They get low paying jobs, and constantly try to move ahead to better paying jobs. Some are able to move on, and some are not. Some are stuck in these low paying jobs due to very simple causes like low intelligence, lack of education and lack of opportunity.

Like Einstein said....its all relative

300,000 jobs represent a range of jobs. Some are really good, some are marginal. But 300,000 jobs is still good
If it were a one shot deal, you mau have a point
But in the midst of 11 straight months of 200 k plus jobs it is a very positive employment trend

You are not one of those rooting for the economy to fail are you?

Listen, nutters.

The formula used to come up with the unemployment rate that we are all familiar with HAS NOT CHANGED.

You may argue whether or not this formula is accurate. But you cannot argue that this formula is the one that we have come to use in gauging the employment picture in this nation.

Therefore, you MUST acknowledge that the fûcking unemployment rate....as Americans understand it....has gone down.

Thanks for your cooperation.

If you want to get employed people off of all government assistance, raise the minimum wage.

Like this:

1 year after 15 minimum wage little impact in SeaTac
You cannot do anything to help losers stuck at minimum wage

Very few people make minimum wage; it is insignificant in the scheme of things.

Raise it to $10 and thousands of marginal workers will be fired, and the qualified and productive will pick up the slack, and pay raises too.

Nope. You are wrong. Of course...you haven't taken the time to study the issue. It's understandable that you'd be wrong. Grade.....F.

And the Labor Force Participation Rate dropped to 62.8% (it was 63% a year ago), with 178K people dropping out. Thanks Obama!

I'll also note that the total employed level increased by on 96K.

wow, people actually believe this crap

no wonder we are so screwed

Why don't you give us the "real" numbers Steph?
U.S. Payroll to Population Rate 43.9 in February

Winner, winner, chicken dinner

Conservatives once again chime in with labor participation rate

Why don't you explain how labor participation rate has been moving downward for 15 years and will continue to drop for the next ten?
