(Reuters) - Israel's naval blockade of the Gaza Strip violates international law, a panel of human rights experts reporting to a U.N. body said on Tuesday, disputing a conclusion reached by a separate U.N. probe into Israel's raid on a Gaza-bound aid ship.

The so-called Palmer Report on the Israeli raid of May 2010 that killed nine Turkish activists said earlier this month that Israel had used unreasonable force in last year's raid, but its naval blockade of the Hamas-ruled strip was legal.

A panel of five independent U.N. rights experts reporting to the U.N. Human Rights Council rejected that conclusion, saying the blockade had subjected Gazans to collective punishment in "flagrant contravention of international human rights and humanitarian law."

If you had read the link you would have read
In pronouncing itself on the legality of the naval blockade, the Palmer Report does not recognize the naval blockade as an integral part of Israel's closure policy toward Gaza which has a disproportionate impact on the human rights of civilians," they said in a joint statement.

An earlier fact-finding mission named by the same U.N. forum to investigate the flotilla incident also found in a report last September that the blockade violated international law. The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) says the blockade violates the Geneva Conventions.

Richard Falk, U.N. special rapporteur on human rights in the occupied Palestinian territories and one of the five experts who issued Tuesday's statement, said the Palmer report's conclusions were influenced by a desire to salve Turkish-Israeli ties.

"The Palmer report was aimed at political reconciliation between Israel and Turkey. It is unfortunate that in the report politics should trump the law,"

That would be the Richard Falk the 9/11 Truther kook who believes 9/11 was an inside job.
Richard Falk endorses 9/11 “inside job” theory, interviewed in his official UN capacity at View from Geneva

But, you're the stupid twat who believes 9/11 was perpetrated by Jews :lol:http://www.usmessageboard.com/4053557-post6.html

You are really pathetic, even for a backward spaniard twat:clap2:

You mean the 'experts' at the UNHRC.
The USUAL UN 'Team A' instead of specials from the Palmer Commission.
Of course "they rejected it"! That's their portfolio.

As of 2010, Israel had been condemned in 32 resolutions by the Council since its creation in 2006. The 32 resolutions comprised 48.1% of all resolutions passed by the Council. By April 2007, the Council had passed 9 resolutions condemning Israel, the ONLY country which it had specifically condemned. Toward SUDAN, a country with human rights abuses as documented by the Council's working groups, it has expressed "deep concern.".

The council voted on 30 June 2006 to make a review of Alleged human rights abuses by Israel a Permanent feature of Every council session. The Council's special rapporteur on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is its only expert mandate with no year of expiry. The resolution, which was sponsored by Organisation of the Islamic Conference, passed by a vote of 29 to 12 with 5 abstentions. Human Rights Watch urged it to look at international human rights and humanitarian law violations committed by Palestinian armed groups as well. Human Rights Watch called on the Council to avoid the selectivity that discredited its predecessor and urged it to hold special sessions on other Urgent situations, such as that in Darfur.

The Special Rapporteur on the question of Palestine to the previous UNCHR, the current UNHRC and the General Assembly was, between 2001 and 2008, John Dugard. Bayefski quotes him as saying that his mandate is to "investigate human rights violations by Israel only, not by Palestinians". Dugard was replaced in 2008 with Richard Falk, who has compared Israel's treatment of Palestinians with the Nazis' treatment of Jews during the Holocaust.[45][46][47] Like his predecessor, Falk's mandate only covers Israel’s human rights record.

In 2006, UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan argued the Commission should not have a "Disproportionate focus on violations by Israel. Not that Israel should be given a free pass. Absolutely not. But the Council should give the same attention to grave violations committed by other states as well." On 20 June 2007, Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon issued a statement that read: "The Secretary-General is Disappointed at the council's decision to Single out only One specific regional item given the range and scope of allegations of human rights violations throughout the world."[....]

Maybe, when Jos finishes blowing tourists in spain, Jos can look into Arabs' and Muslims' ongoing holocaust in Darfur.

Jos, do you spit or swallow? Not that I'm interested.

The genocide in Darfur has claimed 400,000 lives and displaced over 2,500,000 people. More than one hundred people continue to die each day; five thousand die every month.

Since February 2003, the Sudanese government in Khartoum and the government-sponsored Janjaweed militia have used rape, displacement, organized starvation, threats against aid workers and mass murder. Violence, disease, and displacement continue to kill thousands of innocent Darfurians every month.

The official UN Palmer Commission has concluded Israel's blockade of Gaza is legal. Jos is confused from blowing too many tourists during those 18 hour siestas in spain.

What would you have the US do given its 50 year blockade of Cuba and blockade of Syria? Oh, and by the way, the US and Great Britain blockaded Germany in WW II

Maybe if Hamas stopped lobbing rockets at Israel, they wouldn't blockade them.

Asking Arabs and Muslims to refrain from violence is like asking Jews to stop being well-educated, successful and civilized. It's impossible.
