Two Irish flatmates have been found not guilty of the drunken murder of a homeless man in Sydney’s inner west nearly two years ago.

Nathan Kelly and Christopher McLaughlin, tradies hailing from Donegal, were on Monday found not guilty of murder, and the back-up charge of manslaughter, over the death of Paul Tavelardis.

They were living together in a flat in Summer Hill on the night of December 29, 2018 and had been drinking for 12 hours when an altercation with Mr Tavelardis was sparked just after midnight in the middle of Grosvenor Cres.

The story looks very dubious to me.

It's very brief, with not nearly enough detail to know what is really claimed to have happened, or even to verify if there's any realistic chance that it's true. All I get is that two women were accused of murdering a man,while they were drunk, and a jury acquitted them. Why the jury might have acquitted them would be a very important part of this story, but the article doesn't even mention or hint at it. Did the jury find that the death was a complete accident, with no culpability? Did they find it to be a case of self-defense? Did they just not find enough evidence to adequately support the charge?

A quick look over the site hosting this story seems to indicate that nearly all of what it presents is similar, vague, unverifiable stories. The domain name, cashforeverybody.com is even suspicious. Apparently, some sleazy clickbait site.

So, no matter how drunk you are, if somebody hits you with a pipe while they are breaking into your SUV, you are allowed to defend yourself and there is a distinct possibility they could die by their own misadventure. Sounds reasonable to me.
