Erdogan is really such a dope. It has been 100 years since the Armenian Genocide, you would think that he would admit up to it. How come the German leaders have been able to admit the Holocaust and it has been less than 100 years? Maybe Merkel should give him some help in the best way for him to own up to it.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said that Turkey was ready to "pay the price" for mass killings of Armenians that began in 1915 — if, and only if, an “impartial board of historians” agree the dying Ottoman Empire was truly guilty of the crime.

“If the results actually reveal that we have committed a crime, if we have a price to pay, then as Turkey we would assess it and take the required steps,” Erdogan told state-run TRT channel on Thursday, according to Agence French Presse.

True dat......

Why should modern day Turkey assume any responsibility or guilt for something the Ottoman Empire allegedly did? .....
For the same reason/s Germany should accept responsibility for something the Third Reich allegedly did. Which are the same reasons Israel should accept responsibility for things its founding organisations allegedly did.

Naturally someone had to drag Israel into all this. So tell us, CM, how does Israel compare to the number of Armenians, Greeks and Assyrians killed by the Turks? Can you give us the number killed by Israel? It must be in the hundreds of thousands in your mind. Right? By the way, how many Christians do you think were killed when Islam was created and the Muslims left the Saudi Peninsula and invaded the surrounding countries?

We have to remember that the Greeks and the Assyrians should be included when talk is about the Armenian Genocide since so many of them were murdered also. I believe all these people want is for Turkey to acknowledge that the Genocide happened. After 100 years, you would think that it would be no big thing for Turkey to admit that it occurred.

The Third Reich was Germany.

Maybe this subject is too advanced for you?

I don't think that you can judge the Armenian slaughter through today's definition of genocide. In a place like 1914 Ottoman Empire, it was pretty backwards and pretty barbaric.

Genocide didn't even have the same weight in the US and UK, never mind a Sultanate that was still stuck in the 1800s.

By the standards we are trying to set - retroactively - for the Ottomans, we are then just as guilty over our 'genocide' of the Native American tribes under Andrew Jackson, and others.

Exactly. The Republic of Türkiye was not formed until 1923.

It would be like demanding that the United States apologize for the Salem Witch Trials.

However, Americans do not deny that the Salem Witch Trials took place, and it was the Turks who did the killing of all those Armenians, Greeks and Assyrians. These people are not asking for compensation. All they want is an acknowledgement from the Turks that it did happen.

rest of the world has already judged and condemned, even in the UN (thirty some years late)

The Turks do not deny that it happened. They just say it was part of war.

Yes, that's what all the Nazis said during the Nuremberg trials. "It was part of war" or "we were told to do that".
