Trumpsters seek Senate control: Ann Coulter favorite Mo Brooks in Alabama, disgraced ex-Missouri Governor Eric Greitens & young Josh Mandel in Ohio

the toxic political climate discourages good people from running for office. that leaves us with deplorable candidates

WaPost couldn't help themselves, writing:

On the surface, Greitens checks all the boxes for a modern GOP politician. He’s a former Navy SEAL and Rhodes scholar, the sort of mix of military toughness and intellectual firepower that fueled the meteoric rise of Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.). As a former Democrat who said he switched because the Democrats were too far to the left, Greitens could appeal to the Obama-Trump party switchers who transformed the Republican coalition.

Many voters still view him as an outsider despite his time in government, and he has the aggressive, fighter approach to politics that contemporary Republicans crave. On paper, he’s the real deal for conservatives who want an uncompromising and uncompromised champion.

The trouble comes from why Greitens is no longer governor.

He resigned after being indicted twice in 2018. One charge alleged that he stole a list of donors from the nonprofit that he founded to use it without the firm’s consent for his 2016 gubernatorial campaign. The second charge was more damaging: that he had taken a nude picture of a woman with whom he was having an affair while she was bound and blindfolded and used it as blackmail to keep her from revealing the affair.

In both cases, Greitens denied wrongdoing. While the second charge was dropped after prosecutors failed to find the picture Greitens allegedly took, that didn’t stop the Republican-controlled State House from instituting impeachment proceedings against him. Greitens resigned rather than face almost certain removal from office, but only after he reached a deal that resulted in prosecutors dropping the first charge against him in exchange for his resignation.

Normally this would end a politician’s career, but normal no longer seems to apply when a politician’s ego is at stake.

Greitens says he once had an AR-15 pointed at him in Rwanda by a "soldier who wanted alcohol"

this is why all the tough guys are endorsing him

Ahhh good ol' Bernie Kerik. Another outstanding citizen!

if Greitens can take on the Taliban in Helmund, he can certainly take on a bunch of liberals in Congress!

Mother Jones reporting on the Greitens campaign:

The formerly disgraced governor of Missouri Eric Greitens is attempting a post-MeToo comeback with a Senate bid.

Greitens resigned from the Missouri governorship in 2018 amid allegations that he had sexually assaulted and blackmailed his former hairdresser. But the disgraced former governor, who announced a 2022 Senate run to represent Missouri last week, is hoping he can convince his one-time constituents otherwise.

He went on Fox News to break the story of his Senate candidacy. “I have been so encouraged by the people of Missouri that I am happy to announce tonight that I am running for the United States Senate to continue serving the people of Missouri,” he told host Bret Baier, promising to carry out “Trump’s ‘America First’ policies.” When Baier questioned why he would run after resigning amid sexual misconduct allegations, Greitens said he hoped “the truth continues to come out in this race,” blaming his woes on the media and a “George Soros–funded prosecutor.” Then Greitens delivered the crucial lie: “We’ve been exonerated,” he said, “and we’re moving forward.”

Not quite.

Here’s what actually happened: Greitens’ former hairdresser, who is identified as K.S. in court documents, testified to a legislative committee that in 2015, months before he started his campaign for governor, Greitens put his hand “all the way up” between her legs during an appointment without her consent. Two weeks later, she went to Greitens’ house at his urging. During an encounter in his basement, she told the committee, Greitens took a partially nude photo of her and threatened to release it if she went public about their relationship. When she broke down crying, he allegedly coerced her into oral sex. “It felt like consent, but, no, I didn’t want to do it,” K.S. recounted to the committee. “Coerced, maybe. I felt as though that would allow me to leave. That’s what he wanted.”

It’s still unclear whether voters will buy Greitens’ act. According to Politico, Republicans are fretting about his run, calling him a “clear and present danger” to the GOP’s effort to retake the Senate.

During this weekend’s highly anticipated donor retreat hosted by the Republican National Committee in Palm Beach, Ohio Senate candidate Josh Mandel was escorted off the premises while his primary opponent, Jane Timken, was allowed to stay, two sources with direct knowledge of the situation tell Axios.
