"The Trump administration will announce it is rescinding California's authority to regulate greenhouse gas emissions from automobiles at an event at the EPA's Washington headquarters on Wednesday afternoon, according to people familiar with the matter.

The Environmental Protection Agency intends to announce it will revoke the so-called waiver underpinning California's power to set vehicle greenhouse gas standards separately from the Trump administration's broader rule to ease federal vehicle-efficiency standards, which is expected in the weeks ahead, the people said."

Cheering on the EPA?!?

No American needs clean air, clean water, a clean environment, etc.; let Trump run over states' laws like the authoritarian he is, and the dictator he so desires to be. With Trump it's all about MONEY, just like any other asshole Republican.

No American needs false dichotomies either

Much better argument. If California wants to enforce more stringent standards in its state that is certainly their right. Trump’s EPA is overstepping

and its not all about money with your people right, you guys are different...

Our President is indeed an asshole

I lived in California in the late 70s. The air was brown. Mt Baldy, a 5,000 foot mountain capped in snow was obscured from view because of the smog. My car was covered in a yellow film every few days. Buying a car in California meant buying additional emissions control

Today, that area east of LA is much cleaner. You can actually see

Trump has sold out to Capitalists

Disgusting

Trump has sold out to Capitalists

The same Capitalists that made the new cars and made them affordable.
Should we put lead back in gasoline? In paint? Are the new cars better engineered than old cars? Given a choice, would you rather drive a 1974 Ford LTD or a 2020 Ford Taurus?

Is it really 'freedom' to allow cars to pollute more than necessary? Pollution does not respect state lines, national borders or property lines. You may think the environment is just great at your place. The folks in the Adirondacks thought their environment was just great there too. Until the forests started dying from acid rain. That acid was generated where I live, 600 miles west of up state New York.

1st, don't ever pretend to be a states rights advocate again. We know now you are not.

2nd, cheering on the EPA? You might alienate you're whole peer group.

Coal plants are 90% cleaner, cars are 90% cleaner, California is on its way to 50% renewables in electricity production. Detroit has to build cars to a California standard punishing everyone else in the country and raising the price of all vehicles. I’m tired of them dictating to the rest of us. Aren’t we all supposed to be equal? Gas blends arise the price of gasoline with little or no effect. The us leads the world in reducing emissions. If the California crowd would go nuclear we could even be more clean. Air and water are not getting dirtier, the pendulum is just swinging back to the center. Once again right winger does not know what he is talking about and has no grasp of the facts.

Tailpipe emissions have plunged thanks to advances in clean fuels and vehicle technology. New cars, trucks, SUVs and heavy-duty trucks and buses run about 99 percent cleaner than models produced in 1970, according to the EPA helping reduce pollution even as vehicle miles traveled nearly tripled.

You guys and girls fail to understand that a state is more than some land and a government. A state is also the people who live on that land and under that government. And if those people don't want that government telling them what car they can drive or not drive, then they deserve the freedom to own any car or truck they want to.

Besides, I didn't read anything in that article stating that the federal government is going to start confiscating their crappy little electric cars.

What's it matter?
Eventually the big one is gonna trash the state as the tectonic plates work their way north to Alaska. Not like any of those cities will be there in several hundred years.
Cali has a limited life span anyway.

The EPA under Obama became even more weaponized, and overly zealous in unfairly interpreting the Clean Air and Water Act. Trump is doing a very small measure to fix that. It won't effect the air or water. RELAX.
