Trump is fuctionally illiterate
I think that's an exaggeration. The man is surely
functionally literate. Now, to what extent his thinking and self-expression capability surpasses that of the minimum standard for what it means to be functionally literate is a wholly different matter.
It wouldn't surprise me to discover that he struggles to read documents written for sophisticated -- well educated, well informed and soundly critical thinking -- adult readers. I wouldn't because when I was part of my firm's campus recruiting team, countless were the occasions wherein I encountered very poorly written cover letters and/or encountered applicants who, despite having very high grades in a specialized area -- usually computer programming, math, sciences -- struggled to communicate effectively, to say nothing of eloquently.
The challenges they faced ranged from poorly considering and organizing their thoughts prior to uttering them to a basic lack of facility with English. Those individuals surely went about the most mundane of life's activities with aplomb. Needless to say, we didn't offer positions to those applicants. The firm provides all sorts of training in myriad disciplines; however, we require that employees have very strong critical thinking and thought organizational skills prior to joining us.
I suppose we, like others, might make an exception for the right inordinately gifted technologist, but in 20 years, I've never met such a standout. It's not easy to be 20-something and so greatly outstrip someone having 10+ years of experience in the same thing so as to merit a firm making such an exception on one's behalf. Such a candidate would have to not only "hit the ball out of the park" -- everyone we hire does that -- but into the next state.
Trump has managed to be successful because, apparently, he has something of a "built in" sense for real estate, perhaps deal making when profit is the motivating factor all parties involved. That is what it is, and in this country, for Trump, it's a great thing. That doesn't, however, make him "President material." Sadly, American voters made it clear in the 2016 election that the bar they've set for the persons whom they'd see be POTUS is both low and insubstantial.
If Trump has to have the difficult super secret stuff read to him by his daughter...his presidency may not last even one term.
I don't know whether that's plausible, so, or even likely. Take a moment and read about
