"Justice Douglas, you must remember one thing. At the constitutional level where we work, ninety percent of any decision is emotional. The rational of part of us supplies the reasons for supporting our predilections"

pg. 8 The Court Years 1939-1975
The Autobiography of William O. Douglas

Advice given to Justice Douglas by the Chief Justice Charles Evan Hughes:

"Hughes made a statement to me which at the time was shattering but which over the years turned out to be true".
ibid

It is clear, R. v. W. is doomed and the consequences of it's repeal will impact generations of women:
  • to bear and raise a child whose father was her rapist, or
  • to bear a child from incest;
  • to bear a child determined to have Birth Defects and Congenital Anomalies
It is also clear that the Trump Administration seeks to repeal the entire ACA, including in the court filing a preexisting condition, leaving a family to pay for a lifetime when the fetus is determined by Amniocentesis or other prenatal tests shows will require a life-long need for medical treatments and medication.

Since the child born with these pre existing conditions only insurance companies will benefit.

The Alt Left Democrats will still be able to terminate their off spring.
But, now they will just have to fight it out on the state level.

Repeal of Roe won't make abortion illegal, you disingenuous drip.

Repealing Roe v Wade will not make abortion illegal. Only in Red States that will ban it.

Women in Red States who allowed Trump to be elected are getting what they deserve

When we pass a constitutional amendment to ban abortion on demand, you Satanic lefties can still go Mexico or Canada to butcher your babies.
Constitutional Amendments are impossible in today’s political environment

Not entirely, abortions will continue in progressive states, but the women in Red States who are abandoned by the impregnator will get an illegal abortion if she can afford it, or she and her issue will live in poverty for decades. Assholes and misogynists, but a repeat myself, don't give a damn about anyone but themself;
something Odd Dude and other callous conservatives take pride in.

They will have to go elsewhere for an abortion.

I really have little sympathy for them. They voted for Trump knowing what the impact is.......they deserve it

Propaganda, if Roe vs Wade was abolished states can still make abortion legal

More white supremacists, less liberals ...

Isn't life grand :)

This could be the start of a new industry: Abortion Tourism.

Little Daisy Mae gets herself in trouble and for one low package price gets round trip bus fare to the big, bad Liberal city, gets to stay in a Motel 8, has a fine meal at Denny’s, and gets her problem taken care of.

Abortions will still be performed in states where ‘banned’ – they simply won’t be called ‘abortions.’

Women of means in red states will still be able to obtain abortions.

‘Ban’ states won’t be subjecting doctors who perform abortions to criminal prosecution, nor will women who seek abortions be subject to criminal prosecution – it would be bad political optics and would subject red state Republican lawmakers to much deserved ridicule and disdain.

As already correctly noted: women in red states will simply travel to free states to have an abortion.

There will be no Federal law banning abortion; there will be no Constitutional amendment banning abortion.

For the authoritarian right, Roe isn’t about ‘abortion,’ it’s about conservatives seeking to compel conformity and punish dissent; it’s about the right’s advocacy of more government, bigger government interfering in citizens’ private lives.

Blue states will still respect the right to privacy; the fight to protect privacy rights will move from the courts to the ballot box.

Overturning Roe will result in a considerable political backlash, facilitating turning some purple states blue.

In time all ‘bans’ will be repealed or simply not enforced.

Many Red States have already effectively shut down Roe by harassing clinics out of business and making them few and far between

When we pass a constitutional amendment to ban abortion on demand, you Satanic lefties can still go Mexico or Canada to butcher your babies.
Perhaps we should let Roe stand, as a benefit to those very same babies. There are people who should not spawn for the benefit of society at large.

“It is clear, R. v. W. is doomed and the consequences of its repeal will impact generations of women…”

Correct.

It also places privacy rights in comprehensive jeopardy.

With Republican-controlled states at liberty to compel women to give birth against their will through force of law, the authoritarian right will seek to enact other measures placing unwarranted limits and restrictions on reproductive rights.

How many henny penny threads will there be on this between now and election day I wonder.

Pretty clear that the dnc has hopped on this as the talking point for the election and the water carriers are wearing themselves out already. This woman was appointed yesterday and already the propaganda machine is at full tilt. It is almost as if the prepacked message was prepackaged. Trump could have nominated a ham sandwhich and we'd be hearing the exact same stuff.

OMG, the court is suddenly on par with those of the inquistion. Run for your lives! Good grief, how easily manipulated are these people.

Roe is going nowhere and neither is Obamacare.

But, alas, neither is the 2A, and all of the political activism that was such a merry twinkle in the eye of the left a few short years ago had they won and stuffed a couple more Sotomayors on the bench is but a pipe dream. Wah! Where's my binkie.....

When we pass a constitutional amendment to ban abortion on demand, you Satanic lefties can still go Mexico or Canada to butcher your babies.

Those who can afford to travel to progressive states, Canada, Mexico, Europe or Asia will still be able to terminate a pregnancy; those who can't afford to travel to the North East or West Coast (or foreign nations) will be stuck, and potentially be charged with a felony if they abort a pregnancy.

Those who are incapable of aborting a fetus which will have life-long birth defect requiring expensive medical treatments and medications will be stuck for all the costs, given that the child has an already existing condition at birth.

The consequences of a repeal of R. v. W. are many, those intended and those unintended. The same should also be considered when 21st century conservatives support to repeal the ACA.

True.

And again, women of means will still be able to terminate a pregnancy in ‘ban’ states; it will be low-income women only disadvantaged by such measures, as usual.

For the authoritarian right it’s not about ‘banning’ abortion, it’s about compelling conformity with conservative political dogma and appeasing Christian fundamentalists.
