Trump pardons: Blagojevich, Kerik, Milkin among those who got clemency

The common theme in many of the big name pardons Trump issued this week was some sort of tax evasion or financial corruption -- and how the people convicted of these crimes shouldn't have been -- or as Trump said -- them being sentenced to prison was absolutely ridiculous...

Let's take Paul Pouge…."Pogue, the owner of a Texas construction company, pleaded guilty and was sentenced to three years in prison in 2010 for filing a false federal tax return. Authorities said Pogue underreported his income on his tax returns for three years." <<-- Big fucking deal, should he have went to prison for it?? Nope...Another pardon was Bernie Kerik who also committed tax fraud, again, big deal.....

Or how about Judith Negron -- who took a principled stand against Medicare...."Negron, the owner of a Miami-area mental health company, was sentenced in 2011 to 35 years in prison for orchestrating a $205 million Medicare fraud scheme. She has served eight years of her sentence." <<-- Big fucking deal, Medicare is communism -- so kudos to Judith for fleecing 205 million out of the government...if Medicare was ran by free markets, there wouldn't have been any fraud....

I think that tax fraud or tax evasion should be legal if the tax evasion is over a certain amount....Now if you are some thug or welfare queen committing some type of welfare fraud, worth possibly hundreds of dollars in taxpayer money -- they are the ones who need to serve years in prison -- but if you are a well-to-do person who is committing tax evasion and you can show that it is because of your libertarian philosophies about taxation being theft -- then you should be allowed to commit as much tax evasion and government fraud as you want....

I hope Trump pardons more tax evaders to reinforce the message that taxation is theft, nobody (especially job creators) should have to pay taxes...that is the best way to shrink government until it is small enough to drown in a bath tub...This will stimulate financial growth, this will help our free markets become much more free and just encourage freedom overall...It is always best to let free markets do the regulation, let free markets handle the courts, let free markets handle property rights, labor rights, etc..

Taxation is theft.

But I unnerstans you Homey, Baby Mammas gots lotsa hongry moufs dat needs feedin'.

HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
Apparently the OP has no clue about the record number of Obama pardons.
The crimes committed were not just tax evasion, extortion, bribery, conspiracy... but even violent crimes. And one helped organize a terrorist organization.

It is very obvious that we have a war between mostly urban/suburbs and suburbs/semi rural/rural areas going on. To watch larger land area states be controlled by a couple of counties over many other counties is plain stupid. For to long this has been going on. When people live on top of each other, something happens to them.

Thank Angelo for this:
  • Franklin D. Roosevelt: 2,819 pardons
  • Harry S. Truman: 1,913 pardons
  • Dwight D. Eisenhower: 1,110 pardons
  • Woodrow Wilson: 1,087 pardons
  • Lyndon Johnson: 960 pardons
  • Richard Nixon: 863 pardons
  • Calvin Coolidge: 773 pardons
  • Herbert Hoover: 672 pardons
  • Theodore Roosevelt: 668 pardons
  • Jimmy Carter: 534 pardons
  • John F. Kennedy: 472 pardons 472 in only 2 years
  • Bill Clinton: 396 pardons
  • Ronald Reagan: 393 pardons
  • William H. Taft: 383 pardons
  • Gerald Ford: 382 pardons
  • Warren Harding: 386 pardons
  • William McKinley: 291 pardons
  • Barack Obama: 212 pardons
  • George W. Bush: 189 pardons
  • George H.W. Bush: 74 pardons
  • Donald J. Trump: 10 pardons
What "record" did Obama break? And why does his record matter? We are talking about Trump, who is just getting started. It seems the crimes he is forgiving are corruption type crimes. It probably makes him feel like Santa Claus to get someone out of prison, but I think it is over the line for Trump to be second guessing the courts. Again.

You're full of shit as usual. Yes, I paid for my three bedroom, two-car garage home on 100 acres of wooded land, all by my lonesome.

Didnt Trump free some negroes?

Remember when he pardoned that negro Jack Johnson?at a

How about this First Step Act that the racist Trump passed that also benefited negroes?

What a racist.

Presidents should only pardon if new evidence surfaced and showed they were innocent.
Otherwise, presidents parson/commute people like Oscar Lopez Rivera on their last 3 days in office like obama did.
But lets just bitch for the sake of partisanship. Because domestic terrorism isnt as bad as lying to keep more of YOUR money.

Clemency Initiative

On April 23, 2014, former Deputy Attorney General James M. Cole announced the Department's initiative to encourage qualified federal inmates to petition to have their sentences commuted, or reduced, by the President of the United States. The program came to an end when President Obama left office on January 20, 2017.

Under the initiative, the Department prioritized clemency applications from inmates who met most, if not all of the following factors:

  • They are currently serving a federal sentence in prison and, by operation of law, likely would have received a substantially lower sentence if convicted of the same offense(s) today;
  • They are non-violent, low-level offenders without significant ties to large scale criminal organizations, gangs or cartels;
  • They have served at least 10 years of their prison sentence;
  • They do not have a significant criminal history;
  • They have demonstrated good conduct in prison; and
  • They have no history of violence prior to or during their current term of imprisonment.
Read more about who is qualified to apply for commutation under the new criteria.

Her point is that she knows how to use the Ctrl-C and Ctrl-V functions on a keyboard. That usually takes years and years of practice, but Penelope figgered it out in only two weeks.

TN, if new evidence surfaced and showed they were innocent, they wouldn't need to be pardoned. I agree with you though that Presidents ought to stay out of court business.

I don't necessarily have a problem with it.
Usually the pardons have a basis of reason.
In the case of Blagojevich, the guy is a sleazeball. And unfortunately typical of Chicago politics. Right there with many others over 100 years. The guy deserved to go to jail. But not what he was sentenced. It was payback, and certainly politically motivated by others.
Commuting his sentence was right. And would not have happened without it.
