Except that 78 out of 80 patients didn't recover in this study. If you read the actual study, the drug was only used in 22 cases, not 80. There was a link to the peer reviewed study. And the drug only worked well in combination, with the second drug.

Abstract
We need an effective treatment to cure COVID-19 patients and to decrease the virus carriage duration. In 80 in-patients receiving a combination of hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin we noted a clinical improvement in all but one 86 year-old patient who died, and one 74 year old patient still in intensive care unit. A rapid fall of nasopharyngeal viral load tested by qPCR was noted, with 83% negative at Day7, and 93% at Day8. Virus cultures from patient respiratory samples were negative in 97.5% patients at Day5. This allowed patients to rapidly de discharge from highly contagious wards with a mean length of stay of five days. We believe other teams should urgently evaluate this cost-effective therapeutic strategy, to both avoid the spread of the disease and treat patients as soon as possible before severe respiratory irreversible complications take hold.

A total of 79/80 patients received treatment on a daily basis throughout the whole study period, which lasted a maximum of ten days. In one patient, the treatment had to be stopped on Day 4 because, although it was well tolerated there was a potential risk of interaction with another drug. Adverse events were rare and minor.

Clinical course (Table 3)
The majority (65/80, 81.3%) of patients had favourable outcome and were discharged from our unit at the time of writing with low NEWS scores (61/65, 93.8%). Only 15% required oxygen therapy. Three patients were transferred to the ICU, of whom two improved and were then returned to the ID ward. One 74 year-old patient was still in ICU at the time of writing. Finally, one 86 year-old patient who was not transferred to the ICU, died in the ID ward (Supplementary Table 1).

That is very interesting, but I'm thinking there's a second area that needs investigation, namely the India connection.We all knew it would probably come out eventually. This is just another example of Trump screwing the country for his own personal gain.

President Donald Trump has a “small financial interest” in the maker of an anti-malarial drug that he has been touting as a “game changer” in treating coronavirus, according to The New York Times. Over the past two weeks, Trump and his Fox News allies have aggressively promoted hydroxychloroquine as a potential cure, despite top infectious-disease expert Dr. Anthony Fauci and others urging caution and noting that there was not enough evidence of the drug’s efficacy.
The Times reports the president’s family trusts all have investments in a mutual fund whose largest holding is Sanofi, the manufacturer of Plaquenil, the brand-name version of hydroxychloroquine. Associates of the president, including Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross, have also run funds that hold investments in the pharmaceutical firm.
Looks like our veterans administration doesnt want Trump to "get credit" for this "miracle drug" with no benefit.I saw last night CNN brought out one of their so called medical experts to bash hydroxychloroquine. They don't want Trump to get credit for anything.
If he could he should.Perhaps Trump should fire those partisan doctors.
