Our society is not "highly regulated", nor would such a thing have saved us. We don't have hyper partisan politics or talk radio, both of whom are poisonous.

We also have the good sense not to buy into conspiracy theories for starters. We don't think the government is "out to get us", and we don't have right wing talk radio poisoning one side against the other. We elect our governments to deal with shit like this and we will put their asses out on the street if they let us down.

We also have universal health care. None of us will get any bills for our care and treatment so people don't put off going to the doctor because of copays. Our minimum wage is $14 per hour, and most workers have sick leave. Trudeau extended sick leave to all workers during the crisis and will reimburse businesses for workers they keep on the payroll.

Our government started preparing in December. Last week's shipments of 2 million masks and 1 million tests is the second mass shipment to hospitals throughout the country, to increase testing nationwide, and to top up the PPE's. The masks that Trump is trying to steal from Canada were ordered in January.

You have some states that are OK for now, but as long as there is no nationwide strategy, the virus will just ping pong around the country with hot spots flaring up from time to time. Low wage workers can't afford to stay home, and that $1200 they're getting, well it's not going to be anytime soon and people will get very hungry before it arrives. They're going to go to work, those with mild symptons. It's work or starve.
