In a Republic, actually
“Trump said he took Putin at his word that Russia did not seek to interfere in the US presidential election last year, despite a finding from US intelligence agencies that it did. The fraught relations between the two leaders was underscored anew when Putin's spokesman said election meddling did not come up when they spoke, even though Trump said it did.”

Trump believes a brutal dictator and warmonger over his own intelligence agencies.

Trump’s incompetence is exceeded only by his stupidity.

Thanks for this thread. You've implied Trump knows nothing about any Russian interference.

‘On Saturday, the President delivered his first moment of shock and awe with his Achilles' heel on foreign policy: Russia. In an act of defiance, he said he believed President Vladimir Putin's claim that Russia did not intervene in the 2016 US election despite all the evidence to the contrary, including from US intelligence agencies. He seems more worried that Putin is "insulted" by the accusations than he is by the impact these operations had on our democratic processes. The shocking comments about Putin are likely to drown out everything else that has happened so far.

The statement is a head-turner. It is part of the ongoing puzzle from this administration: What explains Trump's insistence on taking a relatively positive stance toward the Russian government despite the overwhelming evidence we have of an ongoing cyberwar against democratic elections and a terrible record on human rights.’

Trump absolves Putin and shoots himself in the foot (Opinion) - CNN

There’s really no ‘puzzle’ – it’s actually quite simple:

Like most on the right Trump is an authoritarian, and he admires his fellow authoritarian, Putin.

Trump would like to crush political opposition as does Putin, and enjoy the same dictatorial impunity as does Putin.

And Putin sees Trump for the gushing, gullible political neophyte that Trump is, easily manipulated and taken advantage of.
