From our Declaration of Independance:
"...endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. "

Which word comes first pinko's?

LIFE

Abortion was legal in the colonies. The conventional Protestant view was that abortions were allowable up until quickening, which roughly corresponded with the first trimester.

Back up a little ways.

First comes the definition of 'Man'.

One can be a classical liberal and believe the mind makes the person (dead people are not people who merit the same legal rights as the living, even if they do vote).

Hence CL and PC

not that complicated, people...

I wonder how they felt about black people...

seems classical liberalism means pro-slavery

Jesus christ the arguments on here just get more and more dumb. It's like a bunch of children posting on here or a bunch of backwoods, inbred rednecks. It's an embarassment to human intelligence.:cuckoo:

Even if you're sources are entirely correct and true (which they are not), So what?
How is your version of Protestantism relevant to Classical Liberalism's respect for all individual human life?
Are you speculating that Puritanism is Liberalism?
:eusa_eh:

"What about the liberty of the host body?"
Again,
"LIFE, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness"
Which word is it that comes before liberty?
Are you arguing abortion only to save the life of the mother, or something more?

"dead people are not people"
Are you seriously proposing that the in-utero baby is merely a lump of dead human tissue?

Yea, our founding fathers issued a grant to John Hopkins University to do a DNA study on embryo development, that was the same week George Washington's doctors treat his quinsy using calomel (ingesting mercurous chloride) and bloodletting...

Maybe you should instead use your tiny little pea brain to contemplate that 'endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life' would signify that health care is a RIGHT, not a privilege...

I have an idea, let's debate it and then you can correct me...

I'll be waiting.......................................................................

What about the liberty of the host body?

Is that mentioned anywhere in the Declaration of Independence?

In regards to the topic of the thread, I think when you get right down to it, most people are pro-life, yes, even TM. I think the difference is in the role we perceive the government should have in determining the question of whether or not a woman should carry out a pregnancy.

Abortion is a tragedy every time one is performed. Tragedies happen. We should be working together to make fewer tragedies happen.

:cuckoo:

The current modern day PRO-LIFE movement in this country wants to amend the Constitution in order to protect life from conception on.

Now you tell me, why would that be necessary if the founders were "pro-life" to begin with?

Easy answer to that one.

Because things have changed since the Constitution was written and not necessarily for the good.

as one wag put it, "What a bunch of stinking liars these 'conservative republicans,' tea-baggers, etc. fools galore, are! Lying about how they want "smaller government"... ...as they try to foist abortion prohibition, etc. ad nauseam, upon us!..

Wrong. They are PRO-CHOICE. There is a difference.

So, using your logic, the right to life means the right to free health care.

OK... so the right to a car would then also mean the right to free gas.

Gee, we could apply that to all kinds of stuff to get freebies, couldn't we.

That doesn't even attempt to address the question or the issue.
