Traingate refers to an incident in August 2016 when British Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn was accused in the press of misleading the public over a video of him sitting on the floor of a Virgin Trains East Coast train. In the video, Corbyn said he was sitting on the floor because the train was "ram-packed" and used this to make the case for renationalising British Rail, but CCTV footage released later appeared to show empty seats in parts of the train, as well as Corbyn later taking a seat. Corbyn subsequently said he had looked for two seats together so that he could sit with his wife and that he had been found a seat by staff when other passengers were upgraded.
