Tough guy, Trump, runs from questions, hides behind vets.

Trump can't answer valid questions about his sexist comments and silly feud with Rosie O'Donnel ("Megyn Kelly asked me a hard, hard question!"). So he runs away from a legitimate debate to hold a rally "for vets". Wounded Warriors has spent less than 60% of funds raised on vets. The rest has been spent on parties, travel, open bars.. And Trump's only gal-pal, Palin, blames PTSD for her son's woman-beating behavior. Wow, talk about using vets for a political agenda. In fact, many vets have said they would refuse any donations from Trump for this very reason.

We'll await your various links.

It is weird enough to see Donald Trump campaigning for president standing on a decommissioned battleship when his only connection to the military is that he went to a military themed prep school in the 1960s,” MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow exclaimed on her MSNBC show last night.

One day after dazzling a crowd of 15,000 Trump supporters in Texas, the Republican presidential frontrunner traveled to San Pedro, California, to board the decommissioned USS Iowa for what was billed as a “policy speech” hosted by the group, “Veterans For A Strong America.”

“I didn’t expect it, didn’t ask for it,” Trump said of the group’s endorsement of the businessman turned candidate before thanking the group’s president, Joel Arends. In introducing Trump, Arends claimed the endorsement was a departure from the group’s (which he claimed had hundreds of thousands of members) usual practice of not endorsing candidates, citing 2016 as too pivotal an election to sit out.

Maybe it was the protestors shouting “Dump Trump” just below deck or the high winds that distracted Trump, but Tuesday evening’s speech barely reached normal Trump levels of energy let alone a new layer of policy.

“We have illegal immigrants that are treated better by far than our veterans. It’s not going to happen anymore.” Trump vowed in front of the ship’s massive 16-inch guns without offering any details on how he would accomplish that.

On her show, Maddow explored just how Trump could get away with visiting a famed battleship on behalf of a veterans group without announcing one plank of his foreign policy agenda.

“Veterans For A Strong America really does appear to be just one guy,” Maddow explained. “This is apparently just a guy named Joel from South Dakota.”

Noting the “group’s” surprising show of support for Trump after his attack on Sen. John McCain’s record as a war hero, Maddow revealed that the most recent FEC filing for the group shows that they have $30 in the bank with debts totaling $318 to another company held by Arnends. Tickets to the Trump’s speech sold for as mush as $1,000. 850 Trump supporters attended the speech aboard the USS Iowa.

“The whole thing is fake. The whole thing is made for TV. Except for the fact that presumably he did raise money for this guy tonight. And this guy really is the frontrunner for the Republican nomination by a mile. And so far Republican voters do not seem to care that it is all made up,” Maddow concluded.

Trump was right to skip this "debate." It is clear that Megyn Kelly was prepared to air an anti-Trump commercial under the pretext of asking him a legitimate debate question.

Some of us are indescribably happy not to endure valid questions about sexist comments and silly feuds.

Politically Trump made a very strategic move to ditch the debate and not risk damaging himself through what would have surely been a brutal debate for him. I can only imagine what video from Trumps past they had queued up to show his flip floppin contradicting views. The move to ditch and "Stand up for himself" as he calls it is only going to rally his supporters and back up his tough guy, take no BS persona that so many of his supporters love.

As entertaining as all of this is... It is very scary to think that a person with the temperament of Trump (which is equivalent to a schoolyard bully) is so close to holding the most honorable, prestigious, and powerful office in the world.

I'll be honest, I was really hoping he would pull it together and show poise, humility, and good judgement during this process, especially with such a large lead. I think we need a smart business man in the white house to get our economy on track. He has gone the opposite direction. Im sorry to say but if it is Trump or Cruz on the ticket, the GOP is really screwed... Its gonna be worse than the McCain/Palin circus.

I don't think Trump was scared. But he had the perfect scowl and pout of a 5 year old while holding some of his interviews yesterday. Not scared. Just stompin his foot. Let him hold his breath 'til he turns blue--he'll be alright.

In other words Kelly was prepared to unleash some truths of a kind Trump would be unable to shout down. So his tactic was the exercise of an unprecedented maneuver, absence, to evade the unavoidable.

But Megyn Kelly is a very astute woman. She's waiting for the right moment -- and rest assured she will get him.

Exactly -- running and hiding behind the proverbial skirts of veterans.... with of course the usual Rumpian weasel-word caveats:

>> Trump has set up a website that is soliciting donations for the veterans. Yet, the Federalist reports, donations to the site actually go directly to Trump’s personal non-profit foundation. Of course, this is a charitable foundation and maybe it will pass all donations on to vets’ charities. The Federalist report, however, cites a recent analysis by the Weekly Standard’s John McCormack in recounting that Trump’s foundation has given far more to the Clinton Foundation than to veterans’ causes. << --- National Review

And then there's his change-with-the-wind attitude toward the actual vets:

>>
Trump wrote in a letter to the New York State Assembly back in 1991, “While disabled veterans should be given every opportunity to earn a living, is it fair to do so to the detriment of the city as a whole or its tax paying citizens and businesses?” He went on, “Do we allow Fifth Avenue, one of the world’s finest and most luxurious shopping districts, to be turned into an outdoor flea market, clogging and seriously downgrading the area?” He was still at it in 2004, when he wrote a letter to Mayor Mike Bloomberg. “Whether they are veterans or not, they [the vendors] should not be allowed to sell on this most important and prestigious shopping street,” Trump declared. He warned, “The image of New York City will suffer… I hope you can stop this very deplorable situation before it is too late." << (ibid)

Yes indeed, she will. She went out of her way last night to be pretty hard hitting on everyone, putting to rest the complaints that she is biased. She's tough on everyone. My poor boy Rubio.

Is airing "an anti-Trump commercial" the same as confronting him with some embarrassing facts?

Truth is truth and facts are facts and declaring them to be something other changes nothing.

Right, because why would you want the leader of the entire nation have to answer for his views on half the population?

Wrong. Silly feuds with talk show hosts and remarks that some people don't like are junior high school nonsense. The leader of the entire nation needs to talk about grown up stuff, like immigrants who want to kill us and a national debt that we can never pay down under the current level of spending.

Along with OTHER grown up stuff, which Trump has never addressed, he needs to explain why he thinks it's okay to degrade women and especially a couple in particular. I couldn't agree with you more that this is junior high school stuff, so disgusting and amazing in a candidate for president.

The interviews that Trump did with O'Reilly and the CNN chick on his plane were much more in depth than anything that kellygirl could have come up with at the debate.

Trump has done more interviews than any other candidate and with every network and forum.

He just refuses to tolerate set up questions like "when did you stop taking drugs?" from bimbos and fools. Good for him.

Did the dems degrade Sarah Palin? Are they still doing it? YES.

When Trump called Rosie a pig, it was a joke, even though he was correct.

Trump and every other GOP candidate has talked about those things, has the hildebeast? no. all she and Bernie can talk about is raising taxes and giving out more free stuff.

As for paying down a debt, Trump's method seems to be to declare bankruptcy....four times.

Trump has never declared personal bankruptcy. Stop the lies. 4 companies that he owned stock in declared bankruptcy, it happens every day in this country.
