Top 30 songs from 1967

OK this one may be a bit obscure but it's quite interesting and, more importantly, popped into my head.

One 1967 pop hit not mentioned was the Buckinghams' "Susan" but check out the B-side, which was quite an adventurous trek into both avant-garde/musique concrète as well as the growing antiwar philosophy ---

This was the Buckinghams' first single on the Columbia label, which makes it all the more impressive that it showed up on a 45. Reflective of the dark fatalistic mood of the time.

Written by the group's producer James William Guercio, who was also responsible for the psychedelic departure (which the band hated) on the A-side "Susan". Guercio had signed the group with Columbia, continued to develop their horn sound from their emergent hit "Kind of a Drag" on the small USA label, and subsequently went on to name a local band the Chicago Transit Authority (later just "Chicago"), producing records for them and for Blood Sweat and Tears. Prior to all of that he had been the bass player for Chad & Jeremy and very briefly was with the Mothers (of Invention).
