Democrat FDR said "I'm gonna fry me some krauts" and murdered somewhere around 100,000 people even though the war was essentially over.

On the evening of February 13, 1945, a series of Allied firebombing raids begins against the German city of Dresden, reducing the "Florence of the Elbe" to rubble and flames, and killing as many as 135,000 people. It was the single most destructive bombing of the war—including Hiroshima and Nagasaki—and all the more horrendous because little, if anything, was accomplished strategically, since the Germans were already on the verge of surrender.

Among the conclusions reached at the February 1945 Yalta Conference of the Allied powers was the resolution that the Allies would engage in concerted strategic bombing raids against German cities known for war-production and manufacturing, in an effort to bring the Nazi war machine to a crashing halt. The tragic irony of the raid on Dresden, a medieval city renowned for its rich artistic and architectural treasures, is that during the war it had never been a site of war-production or major industry. Both Allies and Germans alike have argued over the real purpose of the firebombing; the ostensible "official" rationale was that Dresden was a major communications center and bombing it would hamper the German ability to convey messages to its army, which was battling Soviet forces at the time. But the extent of the destruction was, for many, disproportionate to the stated strategic goal—many believe that the attack was simply an attempt to punish the Germans and weaken their morale.

The city authorities of Dresden put the death told at around 22,000. Still horrendous, but a fraction of your claims.

On, and FDR didn't plan the attack. It was a British planned raid, with RAF dropping the first bombs. There's no evidence that Roosevelt even knew about the attack until it was over. FDR had virtually nothing to do with direct military planning of individual raids. Especially those that didn't include A bombs.

War crime....the invasion of Poland was a war crime.......anything done to stop it was justified...you nitwit.....

Why have the acts the military performed during WWII become such a source of shame for some (maybe just Republicans) today?

Americans had a sense of duty and commitment to their country, good and the bad, and families then. This makes the current crop of self-indulgent, whining neurotic Prozac munching blobs look very bad in comparison, so they go in for constant over the top smears and degradation of those who were clearly better and tougher than they are.

Because enough time has passed that the left can go on the attack against the those who fought the war......the memories of what that war was all about were too strong for them to come out and openly attack them....that is changing...you can see it in the movies that are coming out about World War 2....lately "Fury" which showed American Soldiers in World War 2 committing war crimes openly and without fear......

Remember....the left hates America...and the military as an extension of America......they will destroy both as much as they can.....

How do you say Republicans? The democrats hate this country and the military...not Republicans......

Isn't there a TOUGH SHIT, DON'T START WARS YOU CAN'T WIN forum???

Deliberately targetting non-combatants is unacceptable, morally reprehensible, and criminal. While technology was far more primitive during WWII, this and other instances weren't about inaccurate bombs and delivery systems, but actually and purposefully targetting civilians.

Arthur "Bomber" Harris estimated that the area bombing campaign took a million fit men off the front lines in order to defend against the waves of bombers. Tradesmen who were needed for production and repair were killed, wounded or their contributions diverted by the bombing campaign.

From Churchill's December 30 1941 'Preparation, Liberation, Assault' speech:

"Look at the Londoners, the Cockneys; look at what they have stood up to. Grim and gay with their cry "We can take it," and their war-time mood of "What is good enough for anybody is good enough for us." We have not asked that the rules of the game should be modified. We shall never descend to the German and Japanese level, but if anybody likes to play rough we can play rough too. Hitler and his Nazi gang have sown the wind; let them reap the whirlwind. Neither the length of the struggle nor any form of severity which it may assume shall make us weary or shall make us quit."
