Among the signers of the post were principals from Congregation Beth El, Oheb Shalom Congregation and Temple Sharey Tefilo-Israel, all of South Orange.
The partners said they are seeking volunteers, “especially to identify affordable housing, provide Arabic language support, and advocate with schools and social services.”

“Over and over again in prayers and in the Torah we are commanded to remember that we were strangers in the land of Egypt. And that commandment reminds us to treat strangers with kindness,” said Rabbi Elliott Tepperman of the Bnai Keshet synagogue in Montclair.
Members of the congregation at Bnai Keshet have been moved by the plight of Syrians, which reminded them of their own diaspora during World War II. They felt compelled to help. Last year, members hosted a Christmas Day dinner for 10 Syrian families.
The dinner was so successful that it led to a continuing program called the Syria Supper Club, where congregants invite Syrians to their home to cook and share a meal. In turn, the diners will make a donation to support the families. So far, there have been around 20 dinners.
Bnai Keshet sponsored a Syrian family with four boys, ages 5 to 14. The synagogue raised $7,000 within 72 hours to pay back the money the family owed for the cost of their flights to the U.S
