Read the charges: they do not claim the SPLC paid white supremacist groups. The DOJ claims they paid members of white supremacist groups as informants. The DOJ in their filing calls these people informants. The headline saying they "funded white supremacist groups" is a lie. It is a lie that the weaponized DOJ knows will spread, so they purposefully tried to make it sound like that is what was happening, but that was not happening, and it's not what the charges are for.

The charges claim that the SPLC deceived donors by not telling them that some donations might go to pay informants. Obviously, you cannot announce that you're paying informants, so this claim is hilariously stupid. But they do't need you to buy the actual charges and they don't expect the charges to stick, they just know you'll read the headlines and go off spouting misinformation.
