On July 28, 2017, Senator John McCain turned thumbs down on a conservative plan to cull the population of the weak, the sick, and the elderly. At 1:30 AM Eastern, the Republican anti-healthcare bill self-immolated. At 4:30 PM that same day, Vox reported that life was stirring among the ashes.

The evil was not dead. Of course not. The evil cannot be killed. It cannot die. That’s because it’s not a thing. It is the lack of a thing, a hole, an absence. You can kill health care. You can kill the sick and the elderly. You cannot kill indifference.

Modern American conservatism has devolved into a brutish philosophy of indifference and contempt rationalized by a veneer of moral superiority. These are the hallmarks of an aristocracy. It is a wealth-based aristocracy, but it is an aristocracy, and nothing is more un-American than that.

Conservatives exalt in the concentration of wealth and of corporate power that frightened the Founders and which they saw as a threat to our liberties.

Their fears were justified.

Justice Louis Brandeis said, “We may have democracy, or we may have wealth concentrated in the hands of a few, but we can't have both." That is a condemnation of what conservatism has become in this country.

It also is as blunt a warning as we could have.

Conservatism, as any aristocracy, opposes democracy.

It rejects the common good. Conservatives see no higher purpose than the unchallenged supremacy of the aristocracy, and they never will stop trying to achieve that.

On August 14, 1935, Franklin Roosevelt signed the Social Security Act. The American government finally was stepping up to better the lives of the American people. Conservatives fought it from the beginning and never have stopped trying to destroy it.

Seventy years later – seventy – with Social Security one of the most popular government programs ever, George W. Bush, tried to privatize it.

Lies about insolvency covered his real goals: to limit government even from protecting its citizens and to redirect massive amounts of money from the Treasury to the aristocracy. Paul Ryan sponsored the legislation in the name of the conservative freedom scam. It died of massive push back, but, Ryan still was promoting it in his 2010 "Road Map for America's Future."

On July 30, 1965, Lyndon Johnson signed Medicare and Medicaid into law. That was 20 years after Harry Truman had first proposed national health insurance. Fifty years later – fifty – Paul Ryan is on a life-long quest to destroy Medicaid.

His hatred for the working poor and government services designed to assist them … has been going on since his college days.” He is no better disposed toward Medicare. The Republican anti-healthcare bill was as much about destroying Medicare and Medicaid as it was about destroying Obamacare.

On March 23, 2010, President Obama signed the Affordable Care Act into law. That kicked off more than seven years of relentless opposition and sabotage by conservatives. It is not over even now, and it never will be over.

Modern American conservatism is class warfare at its ugliest and most ruthless. The mere thought that, somewhere in the country, a “taker” is being helped, the lives of the undeserving are being made better, the rights of mere citizens are being enforced, all by government, gives them fits of contempt.

The leaders of today’s conservatism are corporatists, not philosophers, and the interest groups to which they would deliver government are those of corporations, finance, and wealth.

They wrap conservatism in the language of rights and liberties, but those are a dissimulation for greed.

They clothe themselves in the moralistic and self-righteous language of “makers” and “takers,” but those are tools for manipulating stooges in the working class.

For those outside the aristocracy, no aspect of our lives would go unharmed, perhaps ruined, by the full exercise of modern conservatism. And conservatives will not stop short of that. They recognize no rules, no ethical boundaries, and they will not quit.

We never will be safe. Conservatism never will stop coming after us. Remember who they are and what they are.

Never forget.

Never look away.

Never turn your back.

They Will Never Quit. It is Who They Are. It is What They Are. Never Turn Your Back.

Modern American liberalism(loosely used) has devolved into a brutish philosophy of indifference and contempt rationalized by a veneer of moral superiority. These are the hallmarks of an aristocracy. It is a wealth-based aristocracy, but it is an aristocracy, and nothing is more un-American than that.
Imagine that. Makes total sense either way.

So its the Democrats trying to take away social security, medicare, medicaid, and repeal the ACA, that sum up your position accurately?

We are a Nation of many issues. Anyone can cherry pick policies to snicker at the other side for. Our duopoly is a massive failure. If fucking morons would quit acting like one side is better than the other, we could move forward. Because they arent.

It's a valid argument, but I do maintain you defend yourself from those intent on causing you harm in the present time.

Right now that would be Republicans.

I was hoping to begin the end of the duopoly with Bernie Sanders, but had to fall in line behind Clinton.

It's easier to score a touchdown from the opponents 20 yard line, than it is your own 20 yard line.

But I digress.

There will be no forward movement with a kleptocracy, or aristocracy.

Only policies enacted in 180 degrees to that end will cause movement.

I thought this thread was about the Clintons.
