HOOVER, Ala. — A decade after major conference realignment shook up college football, big changes might again be on the horizon.

Texas and Oklahoma of the Big 12 have reached out to the Southeastern Conference about joining the powerful league, a high-ranking college official with knowledge of the situation told the Houston Chronicle on Wednesday.

An announcement could come within a couple of weeks concerning the potential addition of UT and OU to the league, the person said, which would give the SEC 16 schools and make it the first national superconference.

Big 12 likely finally goes back to 12 with Cincy, Memphis, UCF and someone else, maybe BYU or Houston.

Hopefully a reallignment will encourage WVU to go into the ACC and get out of the Big 12

I'll tell you what, be careful what you wish for. I was excited when Nebraska moved to the Big10. now, not so much in Football. Wrestling though has been amazing.

If they decide to go to 16 full time members. And in that scenario they might like Cincy. Regardless WVU would get back an old Big East rival in Cincy which is an actual away game that WVU fans can attend.

What seems to have hurt them is recruiting Texas when they don't play in the state of Texas anymore. Just a guess.

Va Tech and Pitt have always been their big rivals and they are in the ACC so there is a more natural fit for them there. If a superconference happens then the other conferences will look at expanding which will lead one of them to evaporate. If that were to be the big east, then that could put Maryland in the ACC and all of WVU's rivalries will be in the box.

UT can't compete with the TCU's and Iowa States of the world. When Bama and Georgia get through with them they are going to need counseling.
Over the past 10 seasons UT is 47-43 in conference
TCU is 39-34 and ISU is 31-58. So you are way off of the mark. Also UT and Ok will likely be in the SEC West. They won't play Alabama and Georgia every year. Something like this.

And last year both TCU and Iowa State knocked off Texas. PS having 8 more wins over 10 years isn't exactly skunking someone...neither is having a near .500 record in-conference; especially considering the Big 12 isn't the strongest conference in the world. Florida would regularly destroy Texas as would Auburn and South Carolina. LSU...

Texas will have trouble competing against the best in the SEC year in and year out. But the financial package that SEC teams get is far better. The monies are divided among the teams in both conferences. Last year, if I am not mistaken, the Big12 earned a little over $400 million. While the SEC earned over $750 million.

It will be much harder for UT or OU to make a 4 team playoff as members of the SEC. But when the playoffs go to 12 teams, it will be easier for them.

And amazingly...tuition in all of the schools keeps rising.

OU is less than 5K for an academic year, in state.
UT is 12K, they get 40K from foreign students, which is why they have so many. More profitable to kick American citizens to the curb.

Since Saban has been at Alabama the number of out-of-state students has more than doubled. Which means more revenue for the school.

First of all, this is a discussion of college sports, specifically college football. Not tuition.

Second of all, not all schools raise tuition all the time.
from: No base tuition raises at UA System campuses for 2021 – 2022 academic year - University of Alabama System | UAS
"For the fifth consecutive year at the University of Alabama and the fourth consecutive year at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and the University of Alabama in Huntsville, in-state students will not see an increase in base tuition for the 2021 – 2022 academic year. In addition, nonresident tuition will not increase for the third sequential year."

For $750M, the SEC schools should be free of charge. What in the fuck are they doing with $750M (in a TV deal alone) split over what, 14 schools? $53M per school before they sell a ticket.

Sorry for the side-track... this will be my last comment on this thread.

Apologies...but shit.

And less slots for Alabama residents. Just saying. Most tier 1 state universities do this.

Not so

the embarrassment for UT is that they have been unable to dominate the lesser football schools

UT has not been able to recruit the best players in Texas as it once did

thats usually to blame for the coaching staff

UT has not had a top 10 head coach since Darrel Royal retired

Only Mac Brown has been above average in recruiting

Unfortunately he was average to below average in all the other coaching skills
