First of all: What happened to Bill Clinton was an absolute disgrace and stain on our nation. Republicans bear that shame to this day.
However, the investigation against Bill Clinton was practically 100% public and done in plain view of the American people and was conducted by Congress.
The investigation against Trump was done by invisible an unelected bureaucrats, with most of the due process and investigation sources and methods hidden from view, and still remain hidden (hence Rand Paul's demand this week).
Congress has the power in impeach, and although Congress wielded that power most heinously in 1998-1999 against Bill Clinton, they did indeed have the power to do so. And, as such, the American People were able to easily identify and hold those Republicans accountable. Deeply rooted families in American, Colonial and medieval England politics, like the Livingstons, were politically annihilated in the aftermath.
What happened with Trump however, is far worse, and the ultimate depth of the rabbit hole remains unknown (again, hence Rand Paul's demand). Under the Obama Administration, very shady and unprecedented behavior, legally justified by a FISA warrant, obtained and engineered by a British Spy who colluded with Russians, bought and paid for by the DNC and Hillary Clinton, coupled with the planting of a Russian spy, Natalia V, inside of the Trump Tower, under the pretense of investigating Russian collusion.
However, pretense it was and pretense it remains. The effort was to hinder Trump's chances of taking the White House, and if that failed, to morph the initial proceedings into an "insurance policy," to remove Trump from office if he won.
This entire RUSSIA-GATE HOAX was NOT a HOAX. It was a deliberate attempt to overthrow a duly elected President, and in doing so these bad actors colluded with Fusion GPS, British spies and Russian agents (espionage), engaged in Sedition on Cable News (Brennan), and went even further to accuse Trump himself of treason to incite insurrection (at worst) or to obstruct Trump's ability to govern (at best) through a loss of confidence in his Presidency.
In doing so, many hostile foreign powers have benefited from the great rift and division between the American people, rendering Trump incapable of acting or brokering diplomacy, since no foreign state could be certain that Trump himself would remain in Office, and thus any potential treaty or agreement was subject to becoming null and void.
As such, these unelected bureaucrats, whom owe allegiance to the United States, have aided and abetted our enemies, mired international relations and also hindered Trump domestically in his ability to govern as the Chief Executive of the United States.
And who can the people now point the finger at now that this has all subsided with the Mueller report? There is no Livingston to (rightfully) take the fall. There are no ELECTED politicians that in any way, shape or form that can be held accountable in the court of public opinion. Each and every Democrat can claim that they were lied to, and truly believed (at the time) that these unelected bureaucrats were telling the truth and were going to indite Trump or someone very near him for Russian collusion.
An impeachment (as defined by the Consitution) can be metaphorically interpreted as a legalized coup, under the guise of justice, when that power is wielded in a reckless and partisan manner (impeachment of Bill Clinton), but at the end of the day, whether or not such an abuse of power were to have succeeded, the American People did not tolerate it, and more ELECTED Republicans SUFFERED RIGHTFULLY for their acts.
Who suffers now? Who is to blame? The Mueller investigation was, beyond a shadow of a doubt, AN IMPEACHMENT, in all but name (if the report found such evidence, Trump would have been rightfully removed from office and most likely executed for treason), but an impeachment done by unelected officials behind closed doors in smoke filled rooms.
If we take the previous metaphor: An impeachment is a legalized coup, under the guise of law, when done recklessly and partisan. The Mueller investigation was just that, an attempted coup, but with no one to hold accountable either criminally or morally (election day) at the end of the failed process, or at the very least, not a single elected official that be held accountable by law or by election day.
In conclusion, we have entered a very dangerous period in our Republic. The precedent has now been set that this can happen to ANY President, today, tomorrow, next decade or even in the next century. Unelected bureaucrats are now the most powerful people in Washington DC. Deep State is real.
Even worse these unelected bureaucrats are dispensable. Even if one of two of them go to prison, another no-name suit takes his place, without the oversight of the American People. The agency he was part of remains, and daily business resumes as usual.
